Let a, b and c be the dimensions the box

Then the surface are will be

A(total) =2 x A1 (area of the top and bottom) + 2 x A2( area of left and right side) + 2 x A3(area of front and rear)

A1= a x b
A2= a x c
A3= b x c

So we have

Atotal= 2( a x b + a x c + b x c)

Cardboard boxes are still the best! I have a couple of boxes that I'm saving up for the next time my grand-nephews visit. Last Halloween, the boys (5 and 10 years old) created decorations for their yard using the boxes, scissors, markers, and paint. Kids from my neighborhood joined in, too fun! When I was a kid, I made my own 'apartment' using a big box. My own kids had a box that a refrigerator came in; it was a tunnel, a school, a tower, a boat, I don't even remember all the things they created....although I do remember sheets and towels going missing and ending up in the box. The girls kept that box for months before it finally fell apart....:)
