Some dogs adjust so well that you wouldn`t know they have only 3 legs.
I`m so sorry about our puppy i`m really glad you taking care of him.
Give him little time to adjust he should be fine after a while.
just take it slow on the stairs and most importantly keep him save.
I`m pretty sure your vet will give you good tips.

He will not care a bit. Dogs adjust much better than people do to losing a limb. Don't treat him any different than you would a 4 legged dog. If it becomes an issue, assure others the dog doesn't care either. I've seen dogs get along on three legs without any aide from humans or special equipment. Let it go, your puppy will be fine. Thank heavens he's still here. I lost my first dog to a car.

your pup may go through a bit of a depression about the loss of his leg, but the best thing to do would be to still love him, but push him to be a bit independent. you dont want a dog that you constantly have to watch, and if you insist on carrying him to a feed bowl, or outside to potty, he wont become independent.
a three legged dog is a lot different from a two legged dog. i have seen many three legged dogs that are just outstanding because their owners dont pitty them all of the time, and baby them. you need to love it, but not baby it 27/7 because it only has 3 legs. it teaches the dog to be a big fat baby.
now, durring recouperation from the surgery, you need to baby it a bit, but after that, cut back and the dog will discover a whole new world. after a while of trying, it will figure out exactly what to do to walk on its own and even run and jump. you just need to give it some time to adjust and discover its new world, in its new predicament.
be sure to care for it well, keep it well fed, and leash it while it is out with you. keep a close eye on it, you dont want it to get hit again.
Maggie the mutt was one of the fastest dogs ever to live the earth. she rivaled even the greatest of the grayhounds. guess what? she was three legged.
Hope this helps.

Our golden retriever also had a similar situation, but we chose to let him keep his leg even though it's not functional for balance or walking. Despite his disability, he is still very agile. He can run, climb stairs, and swim. We cared for him by allowing him to do his normal activities. Letting your dog continue to play outside will help him grow stronger and learn how to navigate with the other three legs. Also, if there is a pool or a lake nearby, let him swim. Water exercise is great rehabilitation for injured humans and dogs because it's a low impact activity that still provides the resistance necessary for muscle strengthening. Otherwise, just give him lots of affection and keep an eye on him in case problems occur.
Even though he can still function with three legs, you could check with your vet and see if you could get him a prosthetic leg. They might be expensive and I'm not sure if they're widely available, but it wouldn't hurt to investigate prices and see if this might be an option for you.

He'll adjust. Just make sure to watch him for a while untill he gets used to it. Then he'll be just fine! He's young and will adapt to it just fine. I've known a few three legged dogs who ran a perfectly normal life. Sorry to hear he got hit. He'll be ok and make sure he doesn't get in the road agian. Good luck and give him lots of hugs :)

Basically it is all about quality of life. Still take him out for walks and exercise, he will learn to balance better, and grow stronger once he recovers from the operation. Sometimes the handicap is a challenge but inside he is still the same loving pup he always was from the get go. Try to install things in your home to make life easier and watch him around the steps, if you have any in your home, as he will take time to get used to his new balance issues.

Tripod dogs can get along quite well. Just care for him like you would if he had four legs - good food, a safe environment, training and socialization, vet care, exercise and lots of affection. Chances are he will be just fine.

I think people are more hurt by the missing leg than the dog. I've known dogs who do dog agility with three legs! I'm sure he'll be just fine. So glad you didn't give him up just because he has three legs!

I think it bother's us way more than the animals themselves. Your dog will adapt and most likely lead a perfectly normal life with 3 legs. Don't pitty him, enjoy him and be glad he made it. He'll do just fine with 3 legs.

They get along great even when missing a leg.. They aren't like people who have problems or get depressed etc.. Dogs do very well w/ 3 legs.
