You need to volunteer your time and give your money to one cause that matters to you. That doesn't mean you can't help only one organization, but I think it's best to give of yourself in one or two areas at a time so you give your best.

What are you most passionate about? I'm passionate about a lot of things, but I'm careful what I participate in and how much money and time I give so I don't get burned out. Here are few things that either am or have been involved in: Mentoring children, planting trees, writing letters to soldiers, election worker, teaching classes at the county jail, visiting nursing home residents, mentoring young people who are entering the profession I work in. So you get the idea.

Helping others, in whatever way you choose to do so, will make your life so much better. You won't regret it at all. A good place to start is volunteermatch.org. They have all kinds of opportunities, and they match your to your interests and your time commitment.

Shalom,
First I'd like to say that it's great that you wish to help others. You don't need money in order to help those in need. As previousely mentioned, you can volunteer in one of the various nonprofit organization or homeless shelters. Simply, google the organizations in your area and pick one that you feel is the best. Or you can start your own project to help others. Choose a cause that you feel most passionate about and help bring awareness to it. You can pass your message by making a webpage or an online support group. There are so many ways one can help and you are already on your way because you did the first step. You asked HOW. Regards from Israel

if you don't have a lot of money like me the best way to help people is to just be there for them. having a friend to talk to helps more than you know. if they are short on cash and you are the handy man type you could always do odd jobs for them, in return they could cook you dinner or say have you over for a b.b.q. you can help them out and they don't feel bad because they did in a way pay you for your job.

Oh! I know! I know! Pick me! (Waves hand wildly.)
Okay. My social studies teacher isn't exactly rich (he is a teacher, after all), but he once saw a homeless man in a McDonalds and said to the cashier, "Order him 3 cheeseburgers and a large soda and a large fries." and gave the cashier $20, then said "And give him the change."
You could do the same concept, but with new clothes, food that wouldn't congeal.

volunteer time instead of money.
every single charity is always looking for volunteers.
Depends on what cause you feel most strongly about.
Pick one and search out who is in charge of it.
