What's warmer one or two to a sleeping bag?

O.K. to me it's common sense that two to a sleeping bag would be warmer. But I've a bet with a friend who says that one is warmer as that is the way sleeping bags are designed and body warmth doesn't play a factor. If you know for a fact which is warmer I would appreciate your answer.

You win! It is a well-established fact that two warm-blooded bodies snuggled together provide heat to each other. If that heat is confined by an external barrier such as a sleeping bag, if that sleeping bag is effective in its intended purpose, two warm bodies will be warmer than one body by itself, regardless of how the sleeping bag is designed!

Mostly the sleeping bags for two are not the warm kind, and you will loose much warmed through the top of the bag which will mostly left more open when 2 use a sleeping bag.

So if you use a good mummy bag closed so there is not much opening round your face, a bag for one is most likely warmer.
If you use 2 good sleeping bags, each designed for one but allowing to zip them together, and close the tops enough, you will be warmer still, but if you leave the tops open, they will be less warm.
If you use a cheaper blanket sleeping bag you will be colder with two in it, because you loose warmed through the bag and because of the big opening at the top.

This is all in extreme cold conditions. If you 'camp' in a house you will not close the top of a sleeping bag anyhow.

i would think that two people in one sleeping bag would be warmer... since people give off body heat..
