The only thing that truly bothers me about it, Basket, is the way it makes the Catholic-bashers look to others (like you) and how it reflects negatively on Christianity itself. They have no idea what damage they are doing to their own "witness".
Of course we have doctrinal differences; that's been the case ever since Luther nailed up his theses. It's fine to talk about them, discuss them, even debate them. I think a certain amount of that is good for us, on both sides. It can be done respectfully and in Christian love, and I have seen it.
But the outright attacks? The self-righteous condemnation? The snide, sneering, contemptuous, condescending stuff? Not a very appealing picture of what a follower of Christ looks like. The damage they do to the cause of Christ in their blind zeal to be "right" is awfully doggone hard to forgive.

Didn't know there was a war on , thought that ended yrs ago??Depends on what you mean by attacking i guess, telling the truth is not always an attack , and the attacks work both ways .Now the last attacks that I know off are the Islamics attacking and killing Christians, and Jews oh! and thats a real war, or would it be called persecution

Why do some Catholics attack protestants?
We (they) feel threatened, envious, self righteous, etc. etc. etc.
The unified one Church that the Bible talks about is here. The invisible Church as Luther refers to the communion of saints, and the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church is made up of all believers, and only believers, living and dead, and will be added to by everyone who is yet to be born, regardless of denomination.
In fact, if both sides would read scripture instead of chewing at each other there would be a lot more peace in the would.
Thank God that Christ gained forgiveness for us all.
Your friend in Christ,
Mark

It's not unlike the hostility the Catholic Church showed to the Jews in the middle ages. Protestants feel they have improved Christianity sufficiently that the Catholics ought to recognize their improvements and go along with them.
Ever notice how when a product says "New! Improved!" on the label, many times you prefer the way it was before they "improved" it? Same thing with Catholics: they prefer the original, not the "improved" version.
"Different strokes for different folks" just does not work for an evangelical Christian.

As a protestant who finally went through RCIA (and now understands), it is ignorance. For some reason, there is fear about the Pope being the head of the church and the emphasis on Mary being the Mother of God. I was brought up Protestant and was taught alot of things that were based on fear. When learning first hand what the Catholic Church believes, changed all that...I was ashamed for being so judgmental!

I don't espouse any of the following info, but as far as I've seen in protestantism throughout, protestants truly believe the catholics are misled. Simply put.
But who isn't? What a mess.

It is important because for you to see makes you understand something. I don't know what. To me, as a Catholic, it is no big deal. I've only heard it a gazillion times and no one's opinion is going to change how things have been done for a couple millenia. Besides, it's just that childish argument that everyone has. "My God is better than your God."
I await their spiritual growth from here on in, and anticipate their maturity in future years. If they cannot grow from here, it is only sad from my viewpoint. But I have every confidence that they will.

To be honest with you, the reason I ask questions is because I would like to find a good reason to go back to the Catholic Church. I cannot seem to find very good answers to what seem like crippling arguments against that particular church though. It's too bad because I want to go back, but I can't.
