If Christians want Christianity to be more respected, they need to begin acting more respectably. You could start by cutting ties from the creationists.
Did you notice how many Christians responding to your question chose to lie about non-Christians? There's your answer, illustrated clearly.

1) I assume you're in the US, where there is freedom of speech. In the US, people can say bad things about any religion and it's completely legal.
2) A lot of people aren't Christian. Since they don't believe in Christianity they feel free to talk badly about it.
3) Many Christians (Evangelicals in particular) think it's important to share their faith with as many people as possible. Many people who aren't Christian find this annoying or even offensive. Talking trash about Christianity may be a reaction against Christian evangelism.

Why do Christians think it's okay to trash evolution openly? Why did the KKK believe it was okay to trash black people openly? Why did Hitler believe it was okay to trash (and murder) Jews openly?
Because people think certain things are okay. People are different. And if we didn't have debate and criticism in this world, the world would be quite a boring place, indeed.

You are playing with something that is seriously harming your God given soul. The devil is deceitful and very clever. Fooling around with witchcraft may seem natural and beautiful but spiritually you are opening the door to serious harm. Last time I checked, it was OK to trash just about anything openly. Freedom of speech - It's probably the best "right" we have. Maybe you should call that toll-free number and get Christianity on the "do not trash" list.

Because if they trash several others, they'll put you on a 'hit list'. Christians are taught to BE like Christ and forgive your enemies, to pray for those who despitefully use you, etc. We are an easy mark.., but read Psalm 37 and see how God is laughing at these 'trashers'. HE alone can take vengence and it WILL happen. It may seem like it's OK openly to do it, but what they are stacking up for themselves is beyond all mercy. Just read the Psalm and see!

We allow them to trash us. Why? Because if we didnt they would say we were being intolerant. They trash what they dont understand and have no desire of understanding.I take it because Jesus said they would trash us, and I'll take all the garbage they can spew. Doesnt hurt me none, just makes my faith more and more stronger.

We have that promise. To paraphrase .. all who live Godly in Christ WILL suffer persecution. If we are not being persecuted, we are not Christian.
Our example is Jesus the Christ. He was killed and so were 13 of His 14 apostles. Only John died a natural death according to tradition.
As Paul said, we should count it joy that we can suffer for Jesus.
