... and those christians still think they know better - when in fact they don't even understand what the word "theory" means, the difference between science (understanding and accepting) and religion (believing), not to mention the theory itself?

Some religions creates a psychological opposition to facts.

I'm ashamed by how some Christian and Muslim groups (Turkey) are driving down scientific literacy in the name of their god.

Well, let's at least look at the bright side: Unlike Bruno, who was burned at the stake by the church for stating that stars were not suspended in the sky, these scientists at least have some freedom to pursue their research. Thank you Enlightenment -- yet again showing that rational values are more important than religious rules.

Don't you Know Dreamstuff. If you read the wholly babble you automatically become an expert in all things science. Those scientist who spent years in college studying evolution don't know anything because the babble is infallible and thus always right. [/sarcasm]

there's something about religion that fears having even one of its premises removed or changed will topple the whole thing.
i mean, look what happened when the christian bible was translated into common languages, people started reading it for themselves and interpreting it rather than just believing what was said by the priests.

There are MANY American Christians who accept the reality of evolution. It's just those that don't believe have bitter mouths.

Because bothering to find things out is a sin. Using the brain God supposedly gave you will put you on a one way trip into the pit of Hell. Because reality is a lie from Satan.

It's based upon personal belief. You could ask the same question to Christians. You would get the same answer.

why can't any accept the FACT that God made mankind and the universe throughout the course of Millions and Millions of years?

why does everyone (atheists & christians) got to be so cut & dry like an overcooked steak?

One of many reasons Jesus is celebrated is because He shook up the Jewish religion and traditions so everyone wouldn't go on following it so blandly and here we are, 2000 and some odd years later doing the same with his....ugh!

oh, it's not that they can't. they just don't want to. scientists can't muster the same techniques for persuasion that religionists can... they tend to have this naive idea that evidence speaks for itself. honestly, it's probably a good thing that we can't force the hicks (oh excuse me, i meant to say 'wilfully ignorant godbots') to accept it. it would be nice if they would stop spreading their lies to others though, but what can you do.

Fear.
Fear that if they allow even a single tiny little piece of doubt about the complete validity of the Bible eek into their heads, they're going to be condemned to hell to be tortured for all of eternity.

They are so wrapped up in the bible that they cannot or will not see the real world. Remember, they are the biggest fund raisers for the republican party. They were all for the Iraq war, and want more blood.
