Sin...or disobedience,,,caused us to have to die.
(Genesis 2:16-17) And Jehovah God also laid this command upon the man: “From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. 17 But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.”

So before this, God had no plan in place for man to EVER die.
And that means that God planned for man to live without death...forever.
Adam and Eve wrongloy used their free will , listened to Satan, and messed it up for all of us.

To solve the problem, god put in place a plan where another perfect man would pay a propitiory sacrifice...with his perfect life...and 'buy back' for us the right to again live without death.
Jesus paid that price.
the 'goods'...now paid for [ life without death] will be delivered soon...as soon as wickedness is removed from the earth.
What have wicked people done to deserve a future without death?

It teaches one how to recognize sin even in its most subtle form, and opens the door to reveal the method for sins destruction, which is a prerequisite for overcoming death, a task required of each and every mortal either here or hereafter. The first step is understanding the penalty for not overcoming sin, and the second step is taking the necessary step to rid oneself of all sin. The message: no sin, no death.

It's bad! Real bad!

1. All sin
Ec 7:20 There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins.
Rom 3:23 all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

2. Sin incurs judgement
Rom 6:23a For the wages of sin is death
1Cor 6:9,10 "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God."

3. It separates one from God
Is 59:2 your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.

4. But Jesus died to atone for sin
1John 2:2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world

5. Therefore "Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon." Is 55:6,7

well, first of all, sin began in the Old Testament, not the new (which is the true Christian word). All people have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God; by Jesus' redemption on the cross our sins can be forgiven if we truly believe in Him. Jesus is an interceder of sorts between us and God; and if we ask for forgiveness it will be given. that is the promise of the New covenant. I hope that helps.

That man is inherently bad and commits sin, that recognizing this and asking god's forgiveness even though you're gonna continue to sin, is the way to heaven.

All bunk to me. I particularly have trouble understanding how Jesus was crucified 2000 years ago to save me from my sin....and did everyone before that point go straight to hell, or were they grandfathered in?

The wages of sin is death. Sometimes it's a real physical death and some times it is a spiritual death.

If you don't do what god wants you to do, he'll torture you forever.
