You were not being unreasonable. Close at six means, obviously, open until six. The manager would probably like to hear that they are losing sales because her staff is shutting the doors early! I know in business that if you have clients showing, you stay open. I would never turn away one of my customers simply because I wanted to lock up and go home. Sounds like a work ethic problem with the staff, call the manager!

If they say they are open until 6, then they should be open until 6. I think coming in fifteen minutes before they close is still a reasonable time. Four people in line is not "several" people in my opinion. It sounds like the employees were trying to get everyone out of the store as early as possible so they could get out of work as soon as possible. I don't blame you for not arguing to get in there and I agree...if they're going to act like that, then you should take your money elsewhere. Also, you might consider calling tomorrow and asking to speak to the manager about the situation. The employees were not giving good customer service. I don't think you were being unreasonable at all.

No, you were not. 5:45 is not 6, and the salesgirl was wrong. they just closed early so they could get out earlier. You should have reported this to the store owner, who would be furious to know his employees were closing up early. They lost a sale because of that.
I once went to get a pizza at a local pizzeria. When I tried the door at 10PM it was locked. The sign stating hours said it was open until 10:30. The employees inside refused to open the door. I found out later that the owner was on vacation.
Any smart business that had a stated closing time of 6PM would not lock the door until 6:05, to let the last minute shoppers rush in. This is a part of the process of building good will. The opposite can be devastating.

No, you weren't wrong! I would have ignored the lady and went to get my product and got in line like everybody else. The store closes at 6 on Sundays, not 5:45. That sounds like a case of a lazy employee and I would call the manager first thing tomorrow.

No you were not wrong at all. If it had been 5 minutes to six, she could have announced they were closing soon.
If it were me there I would have dug my heels in a bit more. I'd have said something like "Look I know you you are busy and have to leave, but I'm not here to browse, I know what I want. All you need to do is ring me up." I'd have tried a little empathy and tried to act like I was on "her" side.
Anyway, that doesn't change the fact that she all but kicked you out 15 minutes beforehand because she did not want to inconvenience herself. That is poor customer service. I would write what you wrote here to the corporate office and make a formal complaint.
1) The snotty girl will now have to defend her self. She will either be reprimanded or they will hire more staff.
2) You might get some free product or at least a coupon for a discount.
Retailers know that if you don't get what you want from them that you'll get it else ware and that you'll keep going else ware. Make them work a bit to get your patronage back.

You were not unreasonable. Usually, 6:00 closing means they close their doors to new customers entering the store at 6:00, not that everybody has to be out of the store by 6:00.
I would write a letter to the management about this. I'm sure they would be interested to know

You were being reasonable, but if there were other customers in line and several more about to get into the line and by the time you got in line the store would be closed, then the sales girl would have been in the right, but maybe she should have been a little bit nicer and let you come in anyway.

You did not behave unreasonably. The cashier was clearly intent on leaving the building at 6 o'clock sharp. I, too, suggest that you discuss the incident with the store manager. It is only right to do the manager the courtesy of explaining what happened, since such employee behavior will ultimately affect the store's bottom line. Congratulations on taking the high road!

I think you were right because it wasn't close to 6 yet. If it was five minutes till they close then it would be different. My son works at Walmart as a cashier. When it is close to his quitting time and he sees customers in his line that have a cart full of stuff he won't take anymore people. It takes long to check them out. You have to judge your timing.
