I have started to walk/jog on my treadmill. All was going great, but after about 5 or 6 days I have really bad knee pain. The pain is really bad, and it's there even when I am not exercising. The pain is not directly on the knee, but on the inner sides. It feels hot and almost itchy sometimes. I have a hard time going up and down steps as well. I have still gotten on the treadmill, I don't want to lose my will to exercise. I will probably have to make a doctor appointment, which I really hate to do. Anyone else experience something like this? If I let my knees heal, will the pain come back when I continue to jog or brisk walk? Thanks in advance.

Pain is your body's way of saying that something is wrong. You should not get on the treadmill for at least three days. You need to give the muscles in your knees a break.

I recommend you take a hot bath with 2c. of Epsom salts to eliminate the lactic acid that forms on muscles from overuse. Afterwards massage an analgesic cream into the painful muscles. Take Advil liquid capsules , four times daily to help with pain relief.

When you start back on the treadmill cut your time way down. You're going to have to go back at a slower pace.

If you don't feel better after a week See your medical doctor.

Sorry to say but jogging can wear down your knees. So can step aerobics. My doctor said that is safer to walk rather than to run. I walk for 45 minutes everyday, and have never had any issues. I lost some weight 2 years ago by following WW and walking. I went from 150lbs to 118lbs in about 4 months. Do you stretch before you go jogging? That could be a factor too.

The problem could be something simple or it could be serious. If you guess wrong, you will suffer for a long time and might require surgery to fix it.

If I were you, I would stop using the treadmill and see my doctor as soon as possible. I would not want to make the injury any worse than it is. Your doctor should be able to tell you what you can and cannot do.

yes its time to make that doctors appointment , get it checked out , things you can try is ... wear a knee bandage, rub some cream (arthritis cream ) or deep heat something like that ..
make sure you have the shoes that give great support and plenty of cushion ... i would not get back on the treadmill until u see the doctor , to avoid more damage, instead do some walking , it does sound very much like what happened to me , now i am trying to avoid knee surgery ..

when i made the varsity soccer team at my high shcool, and there was way more exercising than my body was used to, the same thing happened to me. you probably need to make the muscles around your knee stronger. you can use a knee brace, but the pain will just come back when you exercise without it. i just tried to work through the pain, and that worked for me, but if it continues, then you should get some professional advice. i hope that you figure it out!
