I disagree with Urik. there are many instances in the Bible, where due to the prayer of a faithful servant, God changed His mind and did not perform as He had planned.

But that was not really your question, was it?

There are those who think that speaking in tongues was for a special time and place. There are other Pentecostal groups that believe that speaking in tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit and that once you have received the Holy Spirit it is a gift you will receive. They omit the other gifts that one is supposed to receive, like handling poisonous snakes, that if they bite them, will not cause death, and the drinking of poison that will not kill the person filled with the Holy Spirit. Show me a person that does all three, and I might be impressed.

Tongues, as defined today, are words spoken that are foreign to the speaker. Paul said that tongues should never be spoken with out an interpretation.

In Psalms 55:1 David asks the Lord to hear his prayer of supplication Praying Psalms 55 would be a good prayer. Notice how appropriate it is for today.

Colossians 4:2 Paul says pray with an attitude of Thanksgiving

1 Peter1:3 is my salutation to you. God Bless.

It helps to be more in tune with God. Try harder and harder for a long, long time. Mother Teresa really only had a few moments, so it's not like God is just going to waltz around for you just because you asked. It's kind of selfish actually to insist on it. If it happens, it happens.

Think about this too while you're at it:
God works in mysterious ways and has a plan.
You pray for things and maybe those things are different than God's plans.
So really you're asking God to change His plans and that's not very nice or convenient, is it? Change God's plans just for you? And what about all the other plans that will have to change once that one plan changed. You're really talking about messing up God's plans. So it's better to just pray to better know God's plans so you can follow them and not be so pushy with God.

Why do you need to say anything.

True prayer is not mumbling a bunch of meaningless phrases.

Real prayer is listening.

Love and blessings Don
