It appears that I was misunderstood. My jaw was dropped by what I percieve to be wiseacres gross misunderstanding of reality. I think that Mr. Tutus quote was accurate, and quite witty. I found wiseacres response to be deserving of a forehead slap.

In the 80s Desmond Tutu traveled around the USA giving the title of Bishop to various ministers with "Name-It-And-Claim-It" teachings, usually from Pentecostal backgrounds...without adequate researching these churches backgrounds. These churches were providing financial backing for Mr. Tutu ministry and travels.

Chapel Hill Harvester Church, Decatur, GA, an Interdenominational Church was one of the churches. Pastor Earl Paulk, a man who had already had several accusations of sexually inappropriate behavior, forcing him to leave The Church of God congregation, to start C.H.H. was bestowed the title of Bishop. Bishop Earl Paulk has since been on the front page of the Atlanta Journal Constitution several times for his sexual impropriety and his numerous settlement regarding sexual abuse, including that of female children.

Desmond Tutu did nothing to review or at least keep watch on any of those affiliated with him and "His calling of God to anoint" these various ministers as Bishops.

But then everyone makes mistakes, huh?

Thanks for the link.

"the ONLY reason you live in a civilized society and are able to flourish without having to kill to live is because of the influence of Christianity and the fact that your ancestors became Christians."

Who's ignorant???

Archbishop Tutu is one of the greatest people alive. This wiseacre could only hope to be a fraction of the man he is.

I rather like your own response to this quote from the link you posted:

"Sometimes humor is used to convey truths too painful to otherwise speak. Whether or not there is a god I think most would agree that Tutu exemplifies that which is good about humanity."

You don't seem to think Tutu ignorant there :)

...so to answer your question - no, I can't imagine why.

Didn't the White Europeans do the same thing to the Native American Indians? And then later, finished the job with Manifest Destiny?
Why should he not be bitter?

I dont think Tutu is ignorant. He knew what he's talking about. And he has something in his head when he said so. He sent a message, " Dont be fooled".

Actually, I think that Tutu's remark was quite shrewd.

So his views on racial/ ethnic/ religious issues haven't been updated since Rudyard Kipling. Could be worse - he could have been shooting for Andrew Jackson.

No, I think the quote is actually very wise. Think about it some more.

If you think that Mother Teresa was helping the poor in Calcutta by denying them access to condoms, then go to bed, will you please?
