Hi everyone. I just got operated and had my gallbladder removed. I been feeling nausea lately for no reason. I was wondering what type of food i can eat now that i don't have my gallbladder no more that WON'T upset my stomach??? And is there any type of foods that i am not supposed to eat that CAN upset my stomach??? If anyone has anymore suggestions i will appreciate it much because i am kind of confused about the whole deal of having my gallbladder out!

What the gallbladder does is to collect and retain bile, which acts as a detergent to combine fatty molecules with water so that the fat can be absorbed. The gallbladder is stimulated to squirt bile over food when fat passes by the opening of the cystic duct into the duodenum. Without a gallbladder you don't get the big squirt of bile, but most people don't have any problems eating afterwards. A few might need to cut down on fats and/or spices.

ahh Im scheduled for my meet and greet with my surgeon tomorrow to get mine out I cant wait to be free of pain! I have read extensively on gallbladder removal. You can eat anything after surgery although some people about 5-10 percent have bad reactions to high fatty foods after removal, like they have to use the bathroom a lot or throw up. You can eat lots of fruits and veggies, chicken, rice, pasta, spaghetti, low fat no fat milk, cheese, yogurts, breads. good luck! I also read sometimes spicy foods can upset your stomach afterwards and that you should try to eat a few meals through out the day since your body is recovering from a major surgery.

The nausea may not be directly from the gall bladder removal. It could just be a lingering symptom from the anesthesia they used. Many people, including me, have extreme reactions to general anesthesia. It does not matter what body part I have surgery on, the nausea follows. It did after 3 foot surgeries and after my gall bladder surgery.

Any time you have surgery you should take it easy following the procedure and ease back into your routine. Either way, discuss this with your doctor right away.
