ESPN/ABC coverage is a joke!
They can't wait to show and tell us everything before the race, and when it is over, it's good bye!
One thing I would like to see go good bye, is that dry-mouthed say nothing guy that is showing us the cut-away car. I think the concept is good, but the guy doing it isn't very good. Where did they come up with this guy? After every one of his explainations, they feel the need to say "Good explaination, Tim". Then they proceed to explain it AGAIN! If he did such a good job in the first place, why do it again? Another thing, get the guy a glass of water before he goes on the air!
Last week, had the network not had such a long pre-race bore-fest, we may have gotten the race in in less than 6 1/2 hours! They knew the weather was going to be an issue, so NASCAR should have made the call to start the race an hour earlier, to get it in.
I sure hope ABC stays out of NASCAR next year.....
Stevo.

Yep. It shows what the programming execs think of racing, when they bump it in favor of Women's Thumbwrestling or whatever.
I don't know if I'd even try to follow NASCAR these days without cable and DVR. Today I set everything to record, and took the baby to play in the park. Then starting in late afternoon, watched the Speed prerace show (which is MUCH better than ABC/ESPN's), then the race, then "Victory Lane" on Speed. Since I started a few hours late I could watch it as a seamless whole, without commercials! Caught up with the real-time broadcast in time to watch Wind Tunnel live if I wanted.
ABC/ESPN's coverage is pretty stinky overall. They've improved very slightly since the first couple races (maybe they got complaints) but still tend to cover only the leaders and Chasers. The other thirty or so cars in the race just don't exist, so far as the announcers are concerned . . . until they wreck. And even then they don't always bother talking to the "less popular" driver.

Ten years ago ESPN/ABC covered the races better than everyone else (Jenkins, Parsons, Jarret anyone?), now they are the worst, and not just for the aforementioned reasons. They dumb it down so freaking bad for all the new fans that I can't hardly stand it. Their "draft track" in particular kills me. How hard is it to tell people that the car in front punches a hole in the air for the cars behind? Certainly an elaborate graphic with funny colored air isn't necessary. Today Busch and Ryan Newman were in "draft lock"... get real guys.

I think they try to shoot us into the ABC Evening News (maybe for ratings???). It's like they didn't even take a commercial break like the 50 times during the race. I make it a point to turn the TV off or to a different channel.

Its like I have said, I have Sirrus radio with MRN and Trackside going with MRN, ESPN/ABC race coverage sucks. I'd go nuts without MRN, okay yes you have to pay for Sirrus radio and trackpass, but you get great coverage.. I'm not a huge Tony Stewart fan but I love his sirrus radio show that is on during the week he is a riot and they have other Nascar radio shows as well..Out here on the west coast its like the checkered flag drops the race is over.boom they switch to something else...Well we still have MRN going atleast till 30-45 minutes after the race is over...After that then we switch to live video on Nascar.com theres always something on....You just have to explore alittle...After all we are competing with football and the baseball playoffs right now..so Nascar looses big time.

I thought that was rather lame. ABC just wants to pump mindless T.V. at their viewers and keep them hypnotized by "junk", just so they can air tons of commercials. I really hate it when they split screen the race so they can talk about other sports, while a lead change or crash is in progress. FOX had better coverage.

you are so right. i could not believe how fast that they cut away from the post race. We had to listen to rusty tell us how much that he knows, for an hour before the race, and then they bolt. i had to wait for speed to come on to hear what happened after the race. ABC, sucks.

Maybe if NASCAR started the race at 1PM they would of had more time for post race stuff.
I personally watch the race and the before and after stuff is garbage to me anyway so It really doesn't matter to me.
As soon as the checker dropped and Gordon by passed the pit road inspector I went out side and did things.
The COT car was a big disappointment.
I wait all year for the Talladega and Daytona races and they screw them up. WTG ASSCAR

ABC/ESPN stink big time!!! I'm still miffed about last weeks race on ABC. If that was football, they would go into as much O/T into the following scheduled shows as needed. If it's NASCAR, they just bump it to another station. Not cool!!
I agree with Fluffy, the split screen to cover other sports stinks too!!!
