Camp Shelby is near Hattieburg, Mississippi. It is a National Guard training base. It has a small cantonment area with WW II style barracks and small PX. Its main function today is training NG soldiers for Iraq, also Tank and Bradley live fire gunnery.

Camp Shelby is a major training camp in Mississipi. Many troops of different branches, mainly Air Force and Army train there before they deploy overseas. Many troops are reserve soldiers, but active duty members also train there if they are not in deployable units and need to be trained up before joining a unit already down range.

camp shelby was created during ww1,partially closed during the 1920's and 1930's,reopened when ww2 started,my father-in-law and mother-in-law met there,he was in the army air corps as a radioman on a bomber amd she worked in the px-her 1st job in her life-1942-1945,southern mississippi
