When you call someone by his or her friend name or he or she doesn't call you by your name but instead use "hey" or "buddy" or whatever else to address you, does that piss you off?

That's one of the easiest and surefire way to make me dislike someone.

Am I just too insecure or something? Or does this ring true to you as well?

I think you're putting too much thought into this. It's like when someone who is dating another gets upset when their Significant other responds with "love ya"

Just relax--they are responding to you, not ignoring you! That's always a plus.

When I have to do that it is because I don't remember the persons name. This could very well the reason for the Hey or Buddy. You could pipe up and say," my name is jack in case you had forgotten." Instead of instantly disliking the person.

Very true!! On the other hand, there are some people I really dislike calling their names and there are some people who just don't call my name at all either. If they are my senior relatives, I will avoid them, with friends I will do the same to them ie don't call their names....just say hi, hey or hello.

No, it doesn't usually bother me. Names like "buddy" are considered to be terms of endearment, so I would take it as a way for the person to express feelings of friendship and/or affection for me. Of course, with your friends you could always say something like, "Hey, one unusual thing about me is I would prefer to be called by my name instead of buddy or dude or something like that."

I can see how it can be irritating. I get ma'am an awful lot. Don't get excited the first few times it happens. Instead, simply smile and say, "The name's Andy." Sometimes we just have to put up with human foibles.

Yes, you are far too insecure. Don't have many friends do you?
I would dump you like a hot potato because my friends only expect respect from me, not that I use their name every time they use mine.
That's just silly.

If it's a good friend, they can call me shitty shitpants for all I care. If it's someone who maybe thinks they're better than me... maybe a little older, more experienced, smarter, stronger, etc... and they keep calling me "buddy" or "bud"... yeah, I don't like that.

Well, you do have the right to get mad. I mean a friend address you by your name. I would get mad if someone kept addressing me as "hey..." thats means they don't care for me nor care to get to know at least my name!
