Well our next door neighbors dog would sometimes break the gate and go into out backyard and when my cats sees the dog he would hiss his back fur would stick up and his tail would get REALLLYY poofy. Why is he doing that?
(btw my cat is a really nice cat so he usually won't do that.. o_O; he really never does it =o)

He's trying to make himself look bigger to the dogs in order to scare them off.

Nothing is wrong. At all. That is an instinctual reaction to what your cat is seeing as a predator. The dog is larger; the cat is acting in a way that makes him appear bigger and warns the dog to stay away. You've never seen a cat do this before? It's very common.

Usually it means the cat is trying to make himself look bigger and the hissing is to warn the other animal. Plus, he may have been startled this time if he never does it.

It's his warning for the dog to stay away. My cats do that all the time when they are trying to initimidate my puppies. It's natural and you're cat is doing nothing wrong.

Are You Kidding?
This is normal for a scared cat. And its funny to watch. The cat is trying to make itself look bigger so it can try to scare off the enemy.
