Passports are only required when traveling out of the country and re-entering the country. A simple I.D should get you anywhere within the United States unless you have a warrent out for your arrest.

No, the only time you need a passport is when you are traveling outside of the U.S. You can use your passport as a form of ID though. If you have a DL that's all you need and all they will ask for. Although if your only picture ID you have is a passport they will take that too.

As a U.S. citizen, you don't need to have a passport to travel within the United States. A driver's license or state-issued ID card is all you need. If you're not a citizen, you may need one. You can check with the airline or the Department of Homeland Security (www.dhs.gov) to see what is needed in that case.

No, you do not want a passport to return and forth from Chicago to San Diego. the two cities are placed in the boundary of united statesa. and traveling everywhere in the U.S. could be saved removed from passport.

No, you only need an ID card since you are from the US. If you already have a passport, it wouldnt hurt to bring it along just in case they need two forms of ID for some reason. But if you don't have one then don't worry about it.
