Frost-burn. You can eat it, it will probably taste like your freezer.

I think you are referring to those white crystal growths on old ice cream. That is merely water that sublimates out of the icecream then forms ice crystals on the surface. Perfectly edible

last time i checked the frost on ice cream is edible

You can eat it, it may not taste good. To keep that from happening I take seranwrap and pat the wrap on the top of my icecream.

Yes it is just ice. But it wouldn't taste good for the fact it will taste like your freezer.

i suppose its the ice creams answer to chocolate turning white when its been subject to heat for a bit (eg easter eggs 3 months after easter)

It's not mold, you can eat it, it just doesn't taste very good.

i dont think its mold just freeze burnt but you shouldnt eat it .
