Who wants to chip in to help words with the birds buy a dictionary. Fascism is "a political theory advocating an authoritarian hierarchical government". You are thinking of a theocracy.

BEWARE THE LEADER WHO BANGS THE DRUMS of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know ? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."

As Fascism is basically the advocacy of unlimited power, it may come in any form. It has in the past, however, worked hand-in-hand with such elements as the church and nationalist state, and very well may do so in America. As of yet, the political ground does not appear to be on the verge of Fascism, but appearances may be deceptive. If there happens to be a crisis in confidence, a further shift to the right could be the result, and America is rather to the right in many areas as it is. Fascism is a frightening possibility.

You call this current government Fascism?

Everyone in America always seems to have an almost knee-jerk reaction to brand their opponents either as a Communist or a Fascist. It's really sad since:

1.) It really shows how little conception the current population has of living in such a state of affairs.

2.) It shows that the American public cannot move beyond a certain paradigm of thinking.

....and i thought this country was on the cutting edge....

I have to agree. Though I think they'll also be wearing pins that say "I'm a Republican" as well. Personal experience, I've had more than a few Conservative Christians tell me that if one is not a Republican they are not a "True Christian". And it falls right in line with Lewis' quote.

Wiseacre - many of the founding fathers were Freemasons... they didn't profess Christianity as part of their Political pursuits. And I hope you realize that there is a Christian Communist Movement... which proves that Communism really has nothing to do with Atheism as a whole.

It will be nailing people to crosses, more likely
It depends on which type of Facism:
Leftist would eventually persecute active Christians as would rightist Neo Nazism
Some Leftist Neo Communist forms would rewrite history to make the American Founding Fathers as proto-Communists(and all theother totalitarian groups would too)
Some forms would wrap themselves up in Nativism and FundaProt eschatology but they too in the end would imprison out of line Fundamentalist Protestants

If you look at the Dominionist group of Christians in the US, you can certainly see this statement in action.

The sad thing is that many of them do not see the parallels between "Dominion Christianity" and Fascism or Nazism......

Here and done. The cross is an ancient symbol of war.

I am starting to think so. The fanatical Fundamentalist are loud and scary. Sometimes I wonder if they will stop when they should. I don't think they know when they should stop either.

Wiseacre: that is the most deluded twist on American History I have ever read! I can't even respond. It's just to ludicrous
