You cannot buy a car from ajunkyard, but you CAN from a tow yard!

also, try Craigslist. Email me and I can set your Craigslist search up for you right!

mdcbert@yahoo.com

my last 2 cars are $400 cars, been driving them for the last 5 years.

For 200 to 400 dollars go to an auction. Take your Father with you. They are known to be rip offs. The only other choice you have is go to a junkyard and most of them there don't even run. Talk to the autioneer, he may be able to help you out with something that needs a little work. TAKE SOMEONE WITH YOU!!! Don't buy it because it looks good. The engine and those things are important for 200 to 400 dollars!!!

In a nutshell, sounds like you overheated the engine, blew the head gasket, have major internal engine damage (hence the diesel sound). You need a new engine. If you ask me the car is not worth dumping 5K into. I would cut my loses, sell as is and advertise the good points of the car, Then put now the bad, needs engine (running) but need to be trailered. Then figure out a price that seems fair for what you have. Your not going to get the money you already put into it. So keep that in mind. Book on it is 2100-5100. With a bad motor youll just have to figure out the number.

Save your money. Unless you know someone personally who will offer you a car for $400 I would not waste my money. In that price range all you would buy yourself is trouble.

Save some money and spend about $1200 - $1500 for a decent car.

If you do that be prepared to spend another $1500 immediately for emergency repairs just to keep it running.

My wife once arranged to get a cheap (free) car for our kid, and she drove it home. As soon as she pulled up to park, the exhaust system fell off. I laughed myself silly.

This is what you can expect with a cheap car like that. There is a reason why it is so cheap, and if you actually want to drive it you will have to pour thousands into it right away. First of all, it will fail inspection, probably emissions. You will have to spend money to fix that. The tires will be bad, and any number of other problems will need to be fixed before you can use it. The cheap cars my wife got always needed at least $1,000 put into them immediately. You can expect the same.

The only skills you are going to practice is learning how to take your car to the repair shop.

I hate to tell you this but you're not going to find anything "reliable" for under at least $1,000.
However, I'd check www.craigslist.com for cheap-ish cars around you. Good luck.
