I have wood floors, sage couch, chocolate ottoman/coffee table, oatmeal shag rug, lots of green plants and a light pine wood armoir. I have a large bay window, 4 panels and one regular sized window in the same room...need something not earth toned, what do you think?

From your description of the room, I think gold toned curtains will kind of tie everything together. I think gold curtains made of silk provide shimmer and excitement to an earth tone room. Then you can dazz it up with colorful vases, orange or red colored. You can also keep a throw on the couch that has a few of the colors you already have with like a red or purple color to it.

Since you don't want something earth toned, how about dark red or burgundy curtains? From what you're describing, you already have a lot of earth tones in the room, so more earth tones will just wash everything out. It will make you feel like you're living in the forest. You can even purchase a few red/burgundy candles to be used as decorations as well. You don't have to light them, but they'll add a little brightness to the room. Hope this helps! =)

What color are the walls? Try peach, light lemon yellow, or aqua.
Suggest a print of sage and/or wall color and/or gold [ brocaded or embroidered ] over cream sheers or blinds or shades.
Add toss pillows in the wall color, gold, or a print of those two and/or sage.
Then accessorize with wall color, sage, and gold [ brass ].

I would use a pale sage colour with oatmeal coloured sheer curtains underneath the sage draperies for a very soft warm comfortable look.

i would suggest a rich burgundy brocade, maybe with gold stitching. remember that my wife is positive all my taste is in my mouth. gold rope ties with tassels and a nice valance and you're all set.
