Not completely sure but be interesting to find out. A friend of mine says that eating to much sugar can make some people depressed because it can be like a toxin in the body. I heard on the news some where that eggs can make you happier. I think hot milk can be calming and help you sleep.

Salmon! Or any other food rich in omega-3's.
Omega-3's have been shown to be responsible for the synthesis of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is a feel good hormone. Eating fish like salmon, mackerel, and tuna have positive effects on the treatment of depression.

5htp (hydroxytryptophan) - an amino acid will increase the levels of serotonin in your brain. I buy mine from the health food shop.
Rhodiola Rosea is good for confidence and mood. www.viridian-nutrition.com
Following a healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruit 'n' veg and a good intake of water will help.
Exercise also helps elevate mood due to endorphin release.

Foods that contain tryptophan, which in turn converts to serotonin. Pasta, bread, bananas, porridge, and oily fish are good for this.
Avoid alcohol, too much caffeine, cheese, chocolate.

bananas are supposed to calm you down and improve your mood ,also porridge and dark chocolate but not all together, i think if you cut out caffeine and fizzy drinks and try and eat natural UN processed food ,like fruit and veg you will start to settle down
