Is there any way I can wipe footage off a camcorder without simply overtaping it?

Thanks.

bulk erasing will destroy the entire video on the tape, maybe. miniDV is metal evaporate tape and highly resistant to small bulk erasers and magnets. you run a very high risk of the video still being playable after it is "erased" this way. Recording over has the advantage of allowing you to save some of the shooting, while removing the undesired footage completely and with certainty.

mini dv can be rerecorded over about 22 times before it gets glitches, but if you get a strong or big magnet, you can move it around on the mini dv tape to reset the digital magnetic code (video saved on mini dv)

You could use the sort of equipment designed for bulk erasing computer tapes, but otherwise, no.

The more you tape over and over, the more risk to have glitches you have.
