I'm sorry, I cant help but laughing.... I just got back from MEPS in my town on Thursday. I took 2 hearing tests and failed the first one. I cant hear well out of my left ear. (I hear fine I think.... apparently not well enough). While I was waiting to have my blood drawn someone I was waiting with told me to hit the "buzzer" every 4-5 seconds. Well I went back in, intent on passing.Ta Da.... I was officially sworn into the United States Army on Thur.
However back on track.... the doctor told me I couldnt join with bad hearing.... if possible talk to your recruiter, NOT the doctor, its her job to DQ you, and your recruiters job to help you get in.
Good Luck!!!

depending on how bad it is you can get a waiver. If you can then you can come in w/o any problem. They'll test you again when you get down to training, just so you know. When I tested at meps it was in a nice quiet room w/ one other person. At reception it was full & hard to hear some of the tones. The only person I've seen put out on hearing issues had a degenerative problem.

Here's the standard. You were tested with an audiometer that measured your hearing loss at 500, 1000, 2000, 3000 and 4000 cycles per second. Any loss greater than 30 decibels on average in either ear is disqualifying. Any loss greater than 35 decibels on any level is disqualifying. Any loss greater than 45 decibels at 3,000 cycles per second is disqualifying. Any loss greater than 55 decibels at 4,000 cycles per second is disqualifying. And you are not permitted to wear and use a hearing aid for initial enlistment.

If the soldier can get you a waiver then you're good to go. But there are going to be a few jobs that you can't get into. Hopefully you scored well on you ASVAB and you'll get a good job but something that may require alot of listening (no pun intended) might be a problem.

They won't waiver you in if it's truly bad. However, the Army really needs people right now. It'll be all over your file that your hearing was waived and you'll be assigned accordingly. There are a few jobs out there that require acute hearing.
