I WAS ASSAULTED BY A FAMILY MEMBER FOR YEARS AND NOW THAT I AM AN ADULT I WANT TO CONFRONT THAT PERSON . SHOULD I? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

It sounds like you have to. You have to do whatever you feel is best for your own closure and your own sanity. I can only thank God that you came through all of this, and hats off to you for holding it all together. I think that if you don't, you hold it inside, and he wins because you never get it all out. Sexual abuse is all about control, and I'm glad that you are taking control. AWESOME!
I'd take it one step further, I'd have the police with me when I confront him. I think this absolutely necessary because a child molester never only has one victim. You need to save his other victims and save future victims. That will give you a great sense of satisfaction, and you will go so far to help others. Like the previous girl said, I would sue his butt off. Get with a women's law firm who does probono (free) work, they will probably more than happy to take it on. You may not get any money, but you'll get a lot of satisfaction.
By the way, you made it to adulthood and you're standing up for yourself! You won!

Linda, This is a tough one for you to encounter by yourself. Can't you tell your Mother, so that you can discuss this incident with someone before you go to the authorities? I don't know how many years ago these incidents took place, but some very serious thought needs to be put in place before you act on this. If this can be proved, someone is going to spend a lot of their future years in prison. There is no statue of limitations for Murder or Rape in most states. I must also advised you that this is going to become public, and you will go through a tremendous amount of publicity over something this serious. Your family member will also go through a huge amount of criticism and ridicule. The court proceedings will be all over the paper, and the TV. The family member is in for publicity and will be branded for ever as a child molester. The problem by not reporting these incidents is, you are unaware if there are more victims out there. The decision is yours, but, I am not sure if they will receive the punishment they truly deserve. Your family is going to pay a bigger price then the other family member. Good Luck, don't go to the Police by yourself.

When you get older and years later you may have panic attacks and be unable to work think about that and how to manage your money now. You might want to sue for damages and also tell the DA. Remember you dont need proof for sex charges and none for civil suits.
