My daughter was complaining the other day that she still gets spanked and her younger brother doesn't anymore(she's 15 he's 14) I didn't really realize this but I explained to her that spanking doens't really work on boys after a certain age whereas girls still learn and benefit from it. I guess it is a little sexist, I'm a woman though so I should know. I got spanked by my dad unitl I was 17 or 18. I don't think it sexist, I think it just works. My friends who are also parents agree, and it's the same in their house. Boys after 13 or 14 just laugh it off, it doesn't hurt them, and they don't fear getting spanked. But teenage girls still fear it, submit to it and learn from it more. Our son still gets punished, just by other means. I think that's what a good parent should do, discipline according to each child. Am I wrong, do you agree, or does my daughter have a point? I don't think so. Opinions please.

I agree with you.

Your daughter is not too old. If she needs a spanking, give her a spanking. My own 15 year old daughter is still subject tough her older sister did not need to be spanked after age 13.

Teenage Spanking

Did Wes need a spanking? Did he deserve a spanking? Did he benefit from it? Then seems it was appropriate in that situation. >he's 14 years old, thats TOO old >Wesley started saying I'm too old to get spanked. It sure ain't fun getting spanked, especially not as a teen! But being a teen doesn't mean we are "too old". Mostly, we should not get spanked; but KNOWING that we MIGHT get spanked can have quite an influence on us much of the time!! IMO Wes was very fortunate ...he was over the arm of a sofa and only got 11 licks of the belt on the seat of his trousers.

I feel the same way usually at about the age of 11 spanking stop working for boys but for girls it sometimes works up until they are in their 30s

My work has lead me to believe that spanking of girls up to the age of 17 is absoltuely vital for their development. There is no point spanking boys after the age of 12 - back breaking tedious work is a much more effective way for them to learn. But girls only really learn manners and respect after they have received a proper bare bottom thrashing for any miscreant behaviour.

Spanking is something to use as a last resort, and not be done out of anger or frustration.
Spanking you should have quit that several years ago.
A teenager is gaining independance as they get ready to leave home. Restriction (grounding) is a good way to keep a teen in line. Extra chores done around the house is another good way.
Talking with your teen to see what is good for a consequence is the best. I have read that in a book called "the Five Love Languages of Teenagers" by Gary Chapman. My mom and I were close, we pretty much talked. There were times of a slap on the hip (I was standig next to her) for being direspectful-rarely occurred.
I owuld recommend tlaking with your daughter to see what she would think works good for disapline. Disipline means to teach. Take care.

I strongly agree. Not only does spanking still make an impression on girls even if they are in their teens, but i think even more than before. I must say i am rather against spanking children younger than 8 or 10 because they will just not get the message and remember only the violence. I believe she can understand what a spanking means and why she is getting one. However you must remember that a proper spanking is a very serious affair, it should only be given when things get really out of hand; no matter how bad your daughter behaves, if you end up spanking her more than once a week you should start reassessing your entire relationship with her.

And if anyone does not believe that spanking is far less effective on boys than on girls they should just check wikipedia.

You bet that is sexist! You should punish your children equally for the same offences. You should either start spanking your son or stop spanking your daughter.
