I've come across these 1911's lately. Anyone out there have opinons on them? Are they quality pistols? Where are they made?
I want a 1911 somewhat like what AO's 1911's and Springfield's GI, but I'd prefer one made in the United States.
Any suggestions for what to look into are welcome.

I think "H" misunderstood your question. He is describing a ParaOrdance pistol. Different manufacture and quite a bit more money.

I may be talking through my hat here, but I think the Auto Ordinance .45 is made in the Philippines. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

There are a number of folks who manufacture 1911 style guns here in the USA. Many are custom jobs and pricey.

Colt and Smith & Wesson make 1911 guns, a Colt GI model will cost about $750. The S&W version is higher.

If you want value for the dollar, you might take a look at the Taurus PT1911. For about $550, you get a lot of extras on the gun that would push the price of the Colt or S&W into the $1,000 range.

I've heard that the Aut Ordanance 1911s are good but for around the same price I would go for the SA GI model. I have one of the stainless GIs and so far its been a pretty good pistol.

Not a bad looking gun. I have not shot one but it is made in the U.S. by the same folks that make the world famous "Tommy gun". I would price it against the Springfield and see who has the better price. You might be able to get a little better Springfield than the plain GI for the same price.

I hear they are good. A police sergeant friend of mine has one that's stainless, double-action only with the 14 round capacity and he says it is the best shooting pistol he's ever owned (and he's owned plenty); says he never has any problems qualifying with it.

Best.

Fuzz is correct, I am meaning the Para Ordinance. I apologize if you mean a different pistol.
