Not sure about florida laws, but in georgia when a juvenile is apprehended for most offenses and no parent/gaurdian is immedietley present, they must be taken into custody and transported to the station or jail. Once there the proper forms are prepared and the officer will contact juvenile justice and the childs parents. That is probably the same in florida so that is why he was arresting her. She was handcuffed behind the back because that is the safest way to handcuff someone. If her hands are in front of her, she is still a possible threat. I know she was a small skinny girl, but she can harm the officer just as quick as anyone else. The officer being a total stranger to her would have to treat her like every other total stranger he arrests. I know for someone with no experience or training the officer's actions may seem harsh. the officer acted very well in calmly, but firmly giving her repeated orders to place her hands behind her back, he even stops and tells her to stop resisting so that she didn't get hurt. Her resistance was the only thing that caused her harm, if she would have followed the officers instructions this would have been just another routine arrest hidden on some videotape. I will give all critics one on him hitting her, but you cant judge this scene without putting yourself in the officer's shoes. The girl did bite him, and you cant tell how hard she bit him just by watching the video. I know the officer was wearing gloves but put on leather gloves and let a friend bite you and see if it still hurts. The video clearly shows the officer regain his composer and go for the next level of force. The supreme court does not require us to match force with the same force,ie if someone pulls a knife officers can go one up and pull a gun. To gain control officers are allowed to go up to the next level of force and this officer did that only after he was bitten. The pepper spray although painful, is safe. It is made out of food grade material and washes off. The pepper spray does last a long time though. I know it is easy to sya this was a bad officer using excessive force and say the girl is a victim, but its just not the case. The officer used appropriate force and would not have had too if the girl was not resistant. As for the charge it is common pratice to charge with the highest charge possible and allow the courts to reduce it. Florida law probably requires that she be tried as an adult due to the particular crimes she was charged with.

Yes, they can date, but they can't do anything sexual. People who said an 18 year old shouldn't be with a 15 year old. Oh Please, 18 year olds are not much mature than a 15 year old. It's only a 3 year difference. It's a sophmore and a senior. Give me a break. And no one should be having sex at either of those ages so dating would not be an issue.

The world is coming to a lot of young kids who think that rules, law and figures of authority doe not apply to them. The world is coming to a bunch of kids who don't think that they should have to work hard and apply themselves. The world is coming to a point where 15 year olds -who are old enough to know the difference between right and wrong- get to have people making excuses for their bad behavior and there is no personal accountability.

If the girl had calmly followed the officers orders then there would have been no problem.

She's being handled that way because she's resisting arrest. If she hadn't been breaking the law, it wouldn't have happened.
If she'd responded to his numerous requests for compliance, it wouldn't have happened.
If she hadn't resisted arrest, they would have called her parents or escorted her home.
If she hadn't done all of the things that put her in this situation, none of it would have happened.

The maze, the gun and the tazer make them feel potent.

The only thing that mellows them down and make them use de-escalation skills that they should have started with, is
A VIDEO CAMERA
