It's an interesting question...
they are both explanations as to how plant life and animal life came to exist...
intelligent design (as far as i understand it) says that God created us as we are now and stuck us on the planet.

evolution says that, when the universe was created, the building blocks of life were made... then life was created over an unimaginably very long period of time (millions/billions of years)... this life was initially very simple life forms (slime type stuff), but the process of evolution ultimately created us humans.

I think that 'creationists' generally misunderstand evolution. They think that it is based purely on random chance and that we are too sophisitcated to have been created by random chance. However, evolution is actually based on design aswell... a very sophisticated design process that i will try to explain below.

I think that you can believe both in God creating the universe and evolution... they can exist side by side (God and evolution).

Evolution is misunderstood because it is quite complex and often badly explained... and even the scientists don't totally understand genes, DNA, genetics etc.

Evolution basically the scientific fact that species adapt to their environment through changes in the genetic code of that species. These changes in the genetic code can sometimes come about in a random way, which is one of the bits that i think creationists don't like, but the process is not random, as i will explain below.

Imagine that there is an animal species that eats leaves from trees to survive. All the leaves at the bottom of the trees get eaten first by this species that grazes on the leaves from the ground. Two brothers are born. They look the same except that one brother has a slightly longer neck due to a change in his genetic code. This means that the brother with the longer neck can eat leaves higher up in the tree than his brother (because his neck is longer, so he can reach higher). In a time of sparse food (imagine there has been a drought and not many trees have survives this particular summer)... then the brother with the longer neck will have a better chance of surviving the drought because he can reach more leaves. The brother with the short neck might die this summer, but his brother with the long neck will survice because he has more food in his reach. The survivor will pass his genetic code on to his children who will have his long neck too.
Now imagine that this process is repeated time and time again over millions of years...
what is the result? a girraffe!
that is a simplistic explanation of evolution.

If you believe in God then you could say that God put the building blocks there for this process to take place... and that he predicted the outcome because he is omnipotent. So you could say that with evolution, God did actually create us, but not imediately.

Many Christians don't like the idea of evolution because it means that God did not design us directly or immediately which goes against the literal teachings of the old testament.
In my opinion The old testament is a story and should be treated as a metaphor.

The way I see it, I think intelligent design is achieved through evolution. I don't think it took god six days to make the earth (considering he rested on the seventh.), but through evolution, he was able to create the earth... that is, if were trying to include intelligent design into the whole ordeal.

But seeing as how it is that one side says intelligent design, and the other says evolution, and how they don't try to band together and see if they can come up with something inbetween the lines, I don't either side will try to accept each others similarities.

Both the words "evolution" and "intelligent design" have English letters in them. That is the only way in which they are the same.

No.

After losing the Dover Panda Trial in Pennsylvania, the creationists have abandoned the term "intelligent design" in favor of "sudden emergence". Both are, as one scientist quipped "Creationism in a cheap tuxedo".

Biological evolution involves many scientific disciplines.

Technically they are not.

Evolution indicates random meandering based on a variety of factors.

Intellegent Design indicated a well ordered and methodical approach with willfull intent.

Evolution is akin to letting your cat knock condiments into a crock pot and then living with the results at the end of the day.

Intellegent design is you cooking a sauce or stew and adding things per a recipe or your own taste on and on-going basis and monitoring the results.

Intellegent design is about genetic engineering.

When I looked it up in the dictionary evolution had to do with plants and animals. Intelligent has to do with being smart and learning.

They can't possibly coexist. Evolution requires billions of years which is why science keeps adding years to how old the earth even though there is plenty of evidence the earth is far younger.

Creator/Energy is the ultimate answer. In the begining Creator/Energy created the whole Big Universe in "6" CYCLEs, on the "7th" CYCLE everthing found it's place and became animated. Everything is made of the same basic matter.

When you ask a question like this you have to see the Universe as the big picture and not Earth.

evolution and intelligent design are opposite because Int. Des. says God created all things. Evolution punts and offers no explaination for the origin of the universe.

I have absolutely no idea as they are not.

One is a scientific explanation of life on earth based on research and proof,
One is a supposedly 'logical' explanation of life on earth based on a book written 2000 years ago
