A friend pointed out that in this question I sounded like I think it's okay to "study" things that christians believe are evil.......such as satanism. I recently read a book about a woman who was delivered from satanism by the power of God but it was a long hard battle. I want to point out the bible says "be innocent concerning what is evil and wise concerning what is good" .....also it says "be wise as serpents and harmless as doves" Anyway the dark side is nothing to mess with! How many agree? Amen or Oh Me??

I'm not weak I have been reading things to add to my faith Knowledge......I just was told by a dear friend I should be careful not to promote books about the dark side or encourage the reading of them to someone who might be vulnerable to susceptible.

We should have nothing to do with Satan or his demons. It is so sad that there are so many people who worship Satan and don’t even know it; they will tell you that there is no devil. They have bought the biggest lie that Satan has ever sold. Jesus feels great sorrow for those people who are so blind, and they don’t even want to know to truth. They get angry and hatful towards anyone who tries to show them the truth, but that is because Satan hates God and those who follow God. So the blind who follow Satan hate those who try to show them the truth.

I have read this book with much regret ! I ended up reading both the first and the second that goes with It. I regret to this day ever picking them up. I repented and asked God to forgive me and heal my mind and renew my joy. It was a VERY dark book ! I still remember some things about this book that reminds me not to ever be lead by anything other than the Holy Spirit. I saw this pastor that started out her ministry with God's Holy Spirit leading her until she started reading books of this nature and It wasn't long until she slipped off Into the occult. It's a slippery slope. As far as I know this Lady still thinks she's doing God's work and continues to read material like this. Miss Sister Zeal honey,I don't condemn you. Just let the Holy Spirit be your guide In all things. I agree that we should be wise as serpents and harmless as doves. But we need to be very care full what we see & hear..Blessings To You Sister..
It was through the prayers Of my beloved Mother and a Dear Friend that I wasn't deceived by this lady and her beliefs. Rebecca Brown was a visiting Guest at this church. I thank God for HIs protection while I was at this place In my life.

First you would need to define "powers of darkness". If you like many Christians mean anything of an "occult" nature then I would have to say no. To a lot of those Christians even Christian Mysticism is evil and dangerous.

And reading a book written by an ex Satanist (if they were actually a Satanist as Christianity often refers to any Pagan practice or faith as "satanism", will not give you a clear, fair and honest idea of exactly what that faith really is.

Would you go to one of the ex-Christians on Yahoo Answers to explain what Christianity "really" is?? Could you honestly expect to get an answer that was not unfairly skewed against Christianity? And they haven't been so burned that they wrote a book condemning Christianity, do you really believe that someone who was so badly effected by a faith is a good source of information about it? Yep....only if you are looking for information to condemn it, NOT looking for truth.

There are an awful lot of practices and beliefs that live under the huge umbrella of "Pagan". Many of them are positive and life affirming. There are of course some that are not.

Depending on your personal beliefs, how much "seeking" you feel the need to do will be different. Whether you are a forthright all together by-the-book-and-nothing-else Christian who wants and needs nothing other than the Bible, your minister and the church, or you are what I'd call a "Christian seeker" who believes in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and in God, but still is compelled to learn and understand more than what can be found in the Bible or the "church".

So, if by "powers of darkness" you mean trying to communicate with, befriend or enslave demons then I'd say yes, for me (and of course for Christians) its better not done. If you mean forbidding any sort of "occult" activity then I would say for me the answer would be no.

Oh me...Listen, the powers of darkness is just our darker emotions (such as anger, hatred, jealousy, etc.) and are the same as the power of light (happiness, love, etc.) just on the different sides of the spectrum. So in reality, they're both the same...you get power from both, you know? And why is satanism such evil? Most do not even WORSHIP your Devil...What if I thought that Christianity was evil? Would you like that? Be more open-minded. That lady was probably into a cult, or maybe the more "demonic" satanism, where they actually DO worship your Devil...all I can say is...be more open-minded...

You guys should read more,a lot more. There is white magic and black magic, you can't have one with out the other. They exist in balance.Black magic is meant to hurt others and if preformed correctly nothing bad will happen to the user.White magic can be used to heal or gain some thing. Its the inexperinced that get hurt or killed by using what you refur to as "powers of darkness"

.As for satanism depends on which type, theres the christian satanism,Lavayen satanism,I know theres more but I can't remeber them at this moment.Satan and his demons ARE NOT EVIL.Its the christians vision of satan and his demons that are evil, read the JoS sit(joyofsatan.org)Oe last bit of information I'll offer up right now.In darkness lies the light of truth.Think about it some time and read more about other religions not just what your religion says about them.I've done my research it time you do yours.

The Bible is pretty clear about what sin is and where it originated. Everything that is bad and evil is a product of sin. And sin will be eradicated one soon day.

Sadly, Satan has made spiritualism to almost look fun and inviting. If you look at the millions of copies of the Harry Potter series sold and now the many thousands of young women who have jumped into witchcraft along with the millions of others who follow horoscopes, listen to those who 'claim' they speak to the dead, or even play with Ouija boards, they are treading on dangerous ground.

The Bible says, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12.

Satan is very real and alive. He is the Father of all lies and deceives many. However, for most Christians we believe and try to follow the Bible as it gives us plenty of direction and protection and it's best to avoid the things associated with spiritual darkness and sin. It's in our eternal interest to avoid anything contrary to what God's would have us to do.

This reminds me of that scene in the Blues Brothers movie when the woman at the bar says to the band "We have BOTH kinds of music - country AND western".

It's 2007 - why are we still talking about gods and "powers of darkness"?

WE are never to play in the playground with the devil, wiht powers of any form of darkness whatsoever. absolutey NOt, not ever. So easy for the devil to hook someone in with interest and get them on the same path he is on to destruction. But, we do need to understand good versis evil. andits all in the Holy Bible. WE dont need to hear from witches or ex witches to learn these things. WHen we do, we risk error coming in. WE are to learn from God and He will make it very clear. God bless you for this question. I am sure your friend didnt mean to make you think you did something wrong , just that we all NEED to pick and choose our words very carefully, as words are very imortant to God.
I agree fully , the dark side is something we should never mess with, not even a little bit. Many taken down the path to hell by just a little bit of interest in such things. Lets pray them to truth and speak them to truth with words to empower them. One of your answerers mentioned that knowledge is good. yes. Knowledge of Gods word is power, but knowledge from dark deceptive ppl only leads to destruction. So be careful, all of us , where we learn from. AMEN

I was into satanism and yes it took many years to be set free. What was the name of the book. Have you read "He came to set the captives free"? satan is so much smarter and more cleaver than any human being, and knows exactly how to get us into bondage. he makes it look innocent, when really his whole plan is to take the person to hell with him forever.

You become what you put your energy into
I for one am over looking to the right and then looking to the left.
I look straight to God, for my direction.

In saying that, I beleive we all need to be tried in the crucible of transformation, or baptist of fire.
How would one know light if one has not known dark.

When one realises these are but polaries, it is un-necessary to tarry in this realm.

God is all that is.
I have more than enough, living truly within the one realm, without allowing the undisciplined mind to take back the reins.

One will live where one finds themself.
God is the only sane answer

God is Gracious
