What does one do when this happens? What are his options? I would think obviously the mother is in pain so it's probably painful for her to try and feed her babies. They're 3 days old. Any advice or web-sites that can help?

They need to have their female checked over by their Vet. They also need to get some puppy nursers (bottles) and, my preference is a goats milk formula to feed the pups. They will need to bottle feed the puppies every 2-2 1/2 hours around the clock for the first 10 days to 2 weeks. The amounts the puppies will drink will be slowly increasing. If they intend to save these puppies, they have to be diligent and stick to the bottle feeding until the puppies are, at a minimum, 3 1/2 to 4 weeks of age. They can then start introducing them to a puppy 'gruel' or mush. I use the goats milk formula, and mix it into finely ground puppy formula dog food. It should be pretty mushy and soft and about the consistency of white glue so the pups can lap it up. By this time they have consulted with and gotten their Vets good advice of how to proceed.

get some puppy formula from the pet store with a puppy bottle i'm sure u need to sterilze a pin and poke a hole from the bottle since they do not come with the hole on the tip. mix the formula according to the laby and feed every 2 to 3 hours. your friend will be very busy for the next few weeks. if the mother decides to let the pups feed then do so - the pups get their immunity from their mother's milk - the mother also might not be rejecting out of pain - but could be because she didn't deliver them so doesn't recognize them as their own. i've seen plenty of dogs undergone c section and would nurse their pups - mother dogs typically wont feed if they believe it's not their own or if there is something wrong with the pup - or if they are first time mothers.

A majority of Chihuahuas do need to have C-sections due to the moms small size and the puppies usually have large heads (like most Chihuahuas do) which gives the mom complications while giving birth to the pups.

It's not pain.. It's the fact that she didn't actually give birth to them. Some will have puppies via c-section and reject them, refuse to feed them, not care for them at all.. Depends on the dog and the breeding and age etc. You get her to lay down, you encourage her to be nice and you encourage her to allow them to eat.. If she will not, then you get milk replacer and you feed the puppies yourself every couple of hours. You should see the vet and get all the supplies you need, and learn how to make the puppies pee/poop, how often to feed them etc.. You should talk to some Chihuahua people, as Chihuahuas have special health issues and problems that you'll need to be aware of..
This is why people shouldn't breed their pets.

Well, then someone needs to get some Puppy Formula and feed them.

The majority ot bit ches have no problem feeding pups after a c-section. Especially after three days.

Try calling the vet also.

Why doesn't your friend know the answer to what you are asking? She is obviously a backyard breeder who doesn't have a damn clue about breeding. She has NO business breeding!! NONE! She stuck 2 dogs together to make money is what she did. There is SO much more involved where breeding is concerned and she doesn't know $hit. Now the pups and mom are SUFFERING because of your friends irresponsibility and ignorance.

Go to petfinders.com put in chihuahua and see how many thousands of dogs are up for adoption because of backyard breeders like your friend. There are too many dogs PERIOD! Yet your friend brings another litter of ill-bred chihuahua's into the world. UGH!!!!!!!!!

TAKE THE DOG TO THE F**KING vet for crying out loud. GEEZ!

If they've survived 3 days, they are getting milk.

Chi pups are very fragile and get sick quickly if they aren't fed properly.

To be safe, he should buy puppy formula and give them a few bottles.

Have him rub the puppies tummies and privates with a warm washcloth after the bottles to help them go to the bathroom.

DO NOT FEED REGULAR (COW'S) MILK. It makes puppies sick.

It was probably her first litter. She may have rejected them. YOU'RE the MOM! Since they're 3 days old, find the nearest livestock feed store, and get formula, and hand feed them!

Has your friend contacted their vet to let them know what is going on? There are suppliments (formula) you can purchase from your vet to feed the pups. Man oh man, your friend has a lot of work ahead of her if she needs to hand feed those pups.
