The symptoms known as Alzheimers disease are associated with a lesions in the brain in which there is a high concentration of aluminium. The mechanism by which the aluminium gets there is not understood.

Aluminium is widely used in food preparation and packaging. This is far more likely to cause problems than the aluminium in antiperspirant.

Yeah, I've heard it, too, but usually more with aluminum cookware or aluminum soda cans.

It's just a theory. Nobody knows how Alzheimer's works, so they look for any anecdotal evidence to try to explain it.

Somewhere, sometime, Alzheimer's patients were found to have excess aluminum in their brains or something. But that may be because their bodies have a problem processing metals out of the bloodstream, which isn't the aluminum, but another problem entirely, like their blood isn't being properly filtered.

There hasn't been any proven link. So don't fret about anti-perspirant just yet. Plenty of people use anti-perspirant and DON'T have Alzheimer's...so it's not like you'll absolutely get it or not based on what goes under your arms.

There's been no link confirmed between the use of anti-perspirant sprays and Alzheimer's disease, peach, and the link that you speak of, between aluminium and Alzheimer's disease is not fully understood. There has been talk of the raised concentrations of aluminium being present in the brains of Alzheimer's sufferers for 30 or 40 years now.

No-one is sure whether it's the ingestion of aluminium that's causing Alzheimer's or whether it's the having Alzheimer's that's causing the brain to retain more aluminium. It's like trying to work out the chicken and egg conundrum ... i.e., which came first?

If you are truly worried about developing Alzheimer's disease, and you believe that there is a link, my advice would be to not use that type of anti-perspirant.

If aluminium is subsequently found to be a cause of Alzheimer's disease ... and there are theories about other causes that make much more sense ... we're probably all going to be in trouble seeing as aluminium is used in a multitude of other processes too. i.e., the canning industry (foods are packaged in tin cans that are predominantly made from a combination of metals, aluminium being only one of them), cooking utensils (pots and pans), etc.

On a side note, aluminium is probably the most common metal available on this little planet of ours, so avoiding it is going to be nigh on impossible.

There's a link between antiperspirant sprays and breast cancer. Try getting a mineral type instead.

I don't use any deodorant at all and it's fine as long as you shower each day and have clean clothes. I've found that I don't smell at all - even if I've been active.

I might need to buy something for when the summer is very hot, but I'll get a mineral one if I do find that I'm getting a bit whiffy!

I read that it gets into the breast tissue and causes breast cancer. But this was an observation by an oncologist and hasnt yet been tested or measured. And it was roll ons as well as sprays. Maybe were better off just smelling?

Don't use any spray's if you can help it. Or use them sparingly. If a little second hand smoke is bad then anything we inhale into our lungs could be harmful. I even got rid or my propane stove as propane can cause nitrous oxides to form as well as carbon monoxide. I won't eat any food cooked on a propane barbarcue either. It makes me sick.

I don't know about that, but I'm convinced that toxins in household products and foods aggrevate or even cause alot of major illnesses today.

I would never use sprays. Not good for you at all. Buy a roll on.
