Zacharias doubted

And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings. But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.”

He doubted God.

Luke 1:18 And Zacharias said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.”
19 And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings. 20 But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.”

But don't think that faith and doubt are on opposite sides of the line. Because you grow into faith and grow out of doubt.

Look at what happens when John the Baptist is born.

Luke 2:63 And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, saying, “His name is John.” So they all marveled. 64 Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue loosed, and he spoke, praising God---67 Now his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying:

His faith became stronger in the end.

As salaamu 'alaikym.

He doubted God's ability to do whatever He wills to do. that is the same as doubting the power of God as the Sustainer and Creator of all that is.
He, Zechariah, thought he was too old to have a child and that his wife was barren and that god could not do anything about that situation.

Moral is, never doubt God.

Ma'a salaam.

It wasn' t what he did for God , he laughed when told he would have a son , so God fixed him , this is just a small consequence of not listening and trusting. He thought they were to old to have a child , nothing is impossible for God

He simply didn't believe as He came to God to fulfill his service in the temple. Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

He was simply, "going through the motions."

Been guilty.
