I woke up Tuesday morning with back and chest pain. Whenever I take a deep breathe swallow or burp my back and chest hurts. It kinda feels like the feeling you get of warming from the inside out but instead of warmth it's pain. Right now the pain is only in my back.
The Pharmacist at the store I work says that it sounds like a viral infection on my nerves. I had the shingles a few weeks ago and I had huge rashes on my skin. She told me another form of the shingles is the virus is on the nerves.
What can I do about this pain? I don't have my insurance card yet but this pain is really getting in the way. How long is this pain going to last. Also the pharmaicst told me that this is rare for someone my age. I'm 21. Are they?

usually older people get shingles. But the point is you have it. The pain is tremendous. try Advil liquid capsules , four times daily. This should help the pain be reduced. Shingles is one of the most painful conditions because it's affecting the nerves. Ask your pharmacist if there's something better than Advil for pain.

Go talk to your doctor again. There are medications they can give you to prevent the outbreaks and make them shorter and less painful. Two drug names are Valtrex and Famvir.
