Christianity is overwhelming so you understand something.
It's difficult to practise, few ever come close.
Belief is not something to easily come by.
The best I can say is keep reading what Jesus did and told to those around him.
Read the start of Genesis.
Those two things are the primary point of concentration.
Have conversations with God, you don't have to speak. But pose your problems and questions and then see what is shown to you as you walk through life.
God will show you things. You will be draw to see things or taken on paths.
All God can do is show you to door, you have to decide to walk through and then figure out what to do once you are inside.
Free will.
You are not a puppet but are presented with paths and choices.
You can choose to ignore, choose to go your own way or go with the flow.
That's about all I can tell you. The rest is up to you to discover.
Finally, there are no rewards or warrantees. Life is an open book test and you pass or fail based on your merits, not how many prayers you make or God bless yous, you say.
It's about how you conduct yourself in life.

I believe that you should check out a non-denominational church! I use to be Lutheran and church would put me to sleep. I've also attended Catholic churches and they also didn't do anything for me. Religions all have their down falls and there own rules to abide by that are not in the Bible. By going to a non-denominational church they pretty much just go by what the Bible says and they seem to be more welcoming. A lot of things in the Bible are hard to understand that's why attending a Bible study would be a great idea for you that way you would be with knowledgeable people and they could explain things to you. There is no Scientific proof that God did not exist. There's more proof that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead then George Washington being the 1st president of the USA. Yet people believe that because it's not a Bible issue. Once you truly study the Bible you will understand it more and more. I recommend getting a Strong's Concordance it helps you read the literal meaning of the words in the Bible. Good Luck to you and if you have any questions you want to ask you can E-mail me and I will be more then happy to help you!!!!!
God Bless

For me when I began to have these same questions I turned to the only place you can get the true answers. The Bible. I started out by reading (KJV and NKJV) and I took the mindset that the Bible was infallible and that I, my thinking was incorrect. Pray for understanding, God will give you what you need to live. After this stop listening to what mankind has to say, there are some who genuinely want to help you, some are not so genuine. It easy to discern those who are willingly marching into a fiery pit and want you to join them. The measuring line to all understanding is the word of God, get to know it and you will figure out who is trying to help you and who are more interested in deceiving you. Christ says "I am the way, the truth, the life: No one come to the father but through me." Jn 14:6 Let me know if you have any questions on different tools you can use to get to know the word.

First, BREATHE. Always, Breathe. The battle between belief and understanding is age old. You sound like you want a relationship with God. So, establish one. Start praying, Start Meditating. Shut out the outside world for a few minutes each day and design your life around connecting to God. It sounds so simple but truly the hardest thing to do in the day and era.
After you get past the judgements from others who don't understand what you are trying to do, you might find yourself experiencing doubt. Forge ahead. Believe harder and have unwavering faith.
Sorround yourself with faith people. Seek the counsel of the godly. Only you can embark upon your own personal journey.

For worship to be acceptable to God, it must be based on truth. (John 4:23) The Bible identifies true worshipers as belonging to "the congregation of the living God, a pillar and support of the truth." (1 Timothy 3:15) The ones making up the congregation of God not only believe the truth of God's Word but also live in harmony with it and defend it, making it known throughout the earth.—Matthew 24:14; Romans 10:9-15. If you would truly like to make a decision based upon accurate knowledge of God, his will and his word, Jehovah's Witnesses would be happy to assist you through a personalized study of the Bible. This is done free of charge.

Dear One--You are MAKING it confusing and hard. It doesn't have to be. Jesus said "Whoever believes like a child will enter the kingdom of heaven." A child's mind is simple, and so is God's word. It is so simple even a child can understand it.
That's the mistake that most people make. All you have to have is a heart for God, and a willingness to serve Him. If you are seeking the truth, you will find it. Start out simple. The Bible tells us that when we are "young" in our walk with the Lord, "milk" is sufficient. As we become more mature in our walk with Him, we need "solid food." Don't worry yourself so much. God will reveal things slowly to you if need be.
Hon, just pray to the Father, through Jesus, and He will hear you. You can talk to Him like He's your best friend. Plain, simple language will do. He hears you no matter what. Just take a deep breath and start over, and talk to the Lord. God bless.

Study, Study, Study.
The more you learn the more you will be able to evaluate what you want to believe. I can talk to you anytime about what I have learned, but that will just be my opinion and my experiences. You have a good start because you heart is on the path. Jesus said , Seek and you shall find. Knock and the door will be open unto you. If you truly wish to get closer to God, study the words of Jesus. Read Matthew , Mark, Luke and John. If you don't want to believe, that is an option, but I warn you that it will become a lonely highway to nowhere.
Please do write if you have questions. I will share what I know to help, but ultimately you will have to decide what you believe. Christ waits with open arms, and through the Holy Spirit, you will find what you seek.

Try thinking of being two parts instead of one. There is the part of you that desparately wants to know the truth and there is the other part that has reservations. The part of you that wants to know cannot force the other part to cooperate. What ever issues the obstinate side has must be reconciled first. Ask yourself this question: what reasons could I have for not wanting to know the truth about GOD? When you know the answers to this question get back to me for further instructions.

You must believe the Bible to be a true Christian. You must realize the part of it that is for us to follow today. We do not follow the Old Testament. Its only use is to show us God is dependable and does what He says He will do. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are the end of the Old Testament because the Testament is the Will of Jesus. A will does not take effect until after the death of the person that is making the will. Beginning in Acts 2: you will find people asking what to do to be saved or have eternal life. Nowhere does it say you only have to believe and ask Jesus into your heart. That is why it is confusing to you, many people say they are Christian and take one or two verses and say that is all you are expected to do. Either the Bible is a lie or you must do what it says.
We are told to believe in Jesus. (Believe and Baprized)
Ac 16:31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. 33 At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his family were baptized. 34 The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole family.
We must repent and turn toward God. (Repent and Baptized) Ac 2:38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
We must confess Jesus Romans 10:9 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
Then we come to baptism where our sins are forgiven and we enter into Christ church/kingdom/body. Romans 6:4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. 5 If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. 6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7 because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. Ro 6:8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
and also 1 Peter 3:20 who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water, 21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.
These steps of obedience get you started in the Christian life.
1CO 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.
Your choice is to believe the complete plan of Christ for the church or choose your way apart from the complete word.
The Bible has no useless verses, so make your own decision.
