People just use each other in high school to get sexually physical but some people like to date in high school to learn from experience so they can have more of an experienced background when they are older. I guess its kind of like practice for the real thing.

The purpose of dating is the same as with most other activites... practice makes perfect.
This is the time when you formulate ideals about what kind of person is most compatable to you. It is not important that the relationship not last... just that you are 'dating' and being active in the social scene.
This is why it is very important that casual dating not become too intimate. You don't want to go too far too fast with people whom you probably will not have a meaningful relationship with in the future.

I know I dont get y people in high school and junior high date and when they date they know that it won't last past graduation. I think they do this so they can just have somebody to hang wit and to pass the year or time by. Some people just have the need to be loved and liked and to have somebody that they can go and to talk to and sometimes make out wit.LOL

For most people today the purpose of dating is recreational, for fun, with no commitment. Dating used to be about courting, i.e. a process of finding and getting to know a suitable marriage partner. It was actually a healthier process since it protected a girl's purity and heart. In other words, she didn't give away her heart unless the guy was committed in an engagement and saved her purity as a special gift her for her husband.

Ah, but so many of them do! Perhaps not in a romantic way, and perhaps you won't speak to the person frequently, but I know from experience that they can and do. I graduated high school over xx years ago (I'm not telling!), and there is a former boyfriend in CA (I'm in NJ) whom I haven't seen in all that time. Now that the internet exists, we do e-mail! Found each other again about 12 years ago. And we can still remember some wonderful times we had!

The purpose would be to 'learn' the basics of dating. Some friendships go well beyond the high school football game, or homecoming. I know plenty who have gone on through college, got married and are still together ~ well beyond the "high school" years!

High school dating is the "preparation" for adult dating... its like driver's training, can't let you out in the real world without know the basics... it is where you find out what your boundries are, what you are looking for in a person, and helps establish the basis for healthy relationships...

They help you learn who you are and what you want from a partner later on in life. I know it seems pointless, but you have to look at it this way, what doesn't kill you , makes you stronger, right? Maybe dating such'n'such a person changes you in such a way that you become the person who someone else falls madly in love with. Oh, you know what I mean.....
