My boyfriend is stationed in germany with the army, and i want to send him an mp3 player as a surprise for his birthday, but looking on ebay, a lot of people wont post to germany because of customs? Im wondering does it apply to forces mail and if its ok to send it, id rather it was a surprise than ask him?

BFPO postcodes are not classed as international ....

To send to a bfpo you pay as if you are sending to the uk

Forces mail is fine as it goes through a seperate system

Make sure you pack it well though as the mail does get bashed around

I one worked for the us military postal service in Germany and although the mail does go through a different system than international mail it is still subject to international customs rules and regulations. It is perfectly acceptable to mail a MP3 player to Germany. Although you will have to fill out a customs form for your package. I would suggest also to have it insured for the value or at the very least to have it sent certified mail.

An APO addy is the same as sending something to NY. HOWEVER, you might want to send him a gift card to AAFES and specify what it's for if you would rather not fill out the customs/pay extra if necessary. Wurzburg/Ramstein and Heidelberg all have big px's and even some of the smaller ones often carry nice electronics on sale.

As has already been pointed out, BFPO addresses are treated, for postal purposes as if they were UK addresses, and no customs declaration is needed.

In any case, you don't need to fill in a customs declaration on post within the EU.
