If somone has a german passport can they be drafted into the army? In the Vietnam war the American drafted people into the war, and seeing as that was also the case in World War II, I have heard that that hadn't been revoked. Could they draft if needed?

They can draft anyone who is a U.S. citizen and registered for the draft. All males are required by US law to register for the draft when they turn 18. Although the draft has not been utilized since the Vietnam war it is still possible although not probable. If you or someone you know holds a German passport that person is then considered a German citizen or holds dual citizenship. In that event they will be required to choose a country of citizenship upon their 18th birthday. If the person is a male and chooses the US then he will also be required to register for the draft.

It depends if they hold American citizenship. But I wouldn't worry. The chances of a draft are low. Professional armies are much more effective than armies whose ranks are filled with soldiers who were forced into uniform. And Politically it won't happen. Our congress recognizes political suicide when they see it. That's why they won't end the Iraq war. Any vote that can be seen as "against the troops" is a trip out of office. A draft, which would enrage the electorate is not an option. Any war requiring a draft would go nuclear first.

As long as you don't decide to take your regular residence in Germany you will not be drafted. Also if you're older than 23. There are some other possibilities not to get drafted if you live in Germany too. Technically it is still possible though.

Only if you are a dual citizen. No draft hre. If you are afraid of the draft, Germany doesnt have one any more either. Okay it wasnt technically a draft, every one got to serve.

If you have a dual passport you can be drafted, that is unless you move back to Germany. It's cold there but the food is good.

The draft is not active in the United States, and you would not likely be called if it was.
