Have you noticed in Wal-Mart they now have Bilingual signs in Spanish and English.

At first, one would think, how convienient!! I don't have to learn English...

Yet when Jose and Maria can't speak english in school, we get a scenario where places like Los Angeles(where the average student recieves $10,000 per year/student(OVER the national average of $6500) yet kids can't speak/read/write English...and then they wind up working for...Wal-Mart, and everything comes full circle.

And with wages SO low, they qualify for foods stamps and welfare(again lowering the resonsibility of a employer to give a decent wage, dumping off that resonsibility to ALL taxpayers via paying for those food stamps/welfare/social services).

God Bless ALL the businesses(and don't forget Wal-Mart!) we see that sell out for the quick easy buck and keep people in their place.

People think I'm crazy when I say something...what do you think? Am I crazy being PO'ed seeing America going 3rd world?

Unfortunately for you...WalMart is not required to be schoolteachers.
They are in business to sell stuff...and they can sell stuff better if customers can read what the heck they are selling.

Wal-Mart isn't the largest corporation and the largest employer in many of the United States for no reason. My favorite thing Wal-Mart does is the illegal insurance fraud they run on old people. They sign them up for life insurance and then don't tell them that the company is the beneficiary. They have gone to court and paid out millions, but they've made BILLIONS in payouts in the process. Ever notice how many really old people work at Wal-Mart? I still shop there though cause I'm cheap as hell and I don't have a lot of money and its the closest store to my house. Its kind of a sad situation.

If you can speak and write in the Spanish language, you are not illiterate.

Concerning Wal-mart: They are just trying to sell more stuff. If you haven't noticed, Wal-mart is a retail business. If people cannot find what they want, then they will not buy it. If Wal-mart could find a way to display every language in the world inside their stores, I'm sure they would.

First of all, if you can read and write in Spanish then you are NOT illiterate. Second, if you are going to an English speaking school, your going to learn English.

I think that its a good thing. If you were in another country, you'd want signs in English. I do get what your saying though. The US is not turning into a 3rd world country.

That doesn't bother me nearly as much as the various Walmarts that have been busted for hiring illegal aliens, but they claim they didn't know about it because of the sub-contractors they were using. Interesting that some of those busts coincided with H. Clinton's resignation from their Board of Directors. I personally don't shop there, unless its an emergency - like when its 3 a.m. and I need an otc for my kids (they only seem to get sick in the middle of the night, for some reason).

With those kids being a minority they get their college education practically free. If, and I stress the word if, they want to make a life for themselves they will have to work a little bit for it. Just like 99% of the rest of America.

I am so tired of everyone blaming everything else for their lack of sucess, civility, education.........etc

I read what you said and still don't know what in the world your talking about. Are you saying that wal-mart is the reason that immigrants are illiterate? ok let's say that's true. What's your excuse for all the U.S citizens who are like that too? oh let me guess we blame Mc donald's and jack in the box for that. all i see in your whole question is griping but no solution. What is your solution to all this? and please don't use the same mantra of "deport them all".

The Walmart in my town has only one language, if you can't read it or speak it your in big trouble. There is NO option here. In fact all the computer games and programs are in that language and NO other. Come shop Walmart in central Mexico.

You do make an interesting point but as a Canadian, we're pretty much used to bilingual signage.

I'm more concerned about their indirect yet substantial support of child slavery and pollution in the real third world.

The only solution is to make English the official language and required as the only language on ballots for local, state and national political offices.
