Get Accutane.

EVERYTHING ELSE IS A WASTE OF TIME.

I really cant stress it enough. You may not think her Acne is that bad but if you do not get her Accutane it WILL get worse.

I recommend the brand names Roche Accutane or Ranbaxy Sotret.

EVERYTHING ELSE IS A WASTE OF TIME!

I see so many variations on this question and have answered it a lot. I had horrible acne. Of course my doctor, like all doctors prescribed the creams. I refused the pills. Antibiotics are for infections, not acne. Prescription acne meds are serious and possibly dangerous. I believe accutane requires a liver test to see if the dosage is at toxic levels. It's a poison!
None of those medications (including Proactive, which I also tried) or cream truly get to the bottom of the problem. At best they may alleviate some symptoms. But what's causing the breakouts in the first place? Your doctor might tell you it's bacteria, hence the need for an antibiotic. But bacteria is present on EVERYONE'S face! Why do some get acne and others do not?
I believe the horrible standard American diet is to blame. I would never have believed that fact if I had not seen it for myself on my own skin. My diet was terrible. I kept believing my doctor that it was not dietary. That it was bacteria and hormones. That may have been just to sell me a prescription. Don't forget that physicians are financially rewarded to prescribe to you.
I cleaned up my diet and the acne went away! Not overnight, mind you but my skin cleared. I stopped eating meat. Now I don't believe you have to stop meat consumption. But you may want to tell your daughter to eat only organic meat with no hormones and antibiotics. I started eating more grains and vegetables. I drink a lot of water. I eliminated white flour and sugar. Yes, the flour and sugar is really hard but my beautifully clear skin makes the sacrifice worthwhile. I also exercise and do yoga. Once my diet was clean, the yoga was the final touch to ending my acne. Any detoxifying practice will help eliminate skin breakouts.
It's been 9 years and I still can't believe that I can leave the house without makeup.
I also recommend vitamin supplementation. Good luck!

Unfortunately, these things will only have a limited effect because acne is caused by the hormonal changes that take place during adolescence.

I use Dermalogica Facial products and find that they're very good at refining the skin......they may help to improve the areas of the skin where acne isn't present - thus improving the overall appearance.

You could also look into getting some decent quality foundation and concealer in order to cover it over. It won't affect the skin as long as it's removed at the end of each day and may give her a little confidence. You can buy very good concealer these days - the type that people use to cover facial problems such as scars.

Don't let her use harsh wash gel as it will dry the skin out and stimulate it to produce even more oil......it turns into a vicious circle.

Like I said, try the Dermalogica products - they're not that cheap, but they're affordable enough and my skin is so much better compared to how it used to be. I can't recommend their stuff enough. It has no perfume or harsh chemicals in either.

You can take her along for a Dermalogica Facial - you'll have to find a beauty clinic that does them - then, the beautician will recommend what products will be suitable for your daughter. They also have foundation and concealers which the beautician can show you how to apply. I relied on these when I was in my teens and they really helped.

She will grow out of it eventually.....it's just a case of coping until then.

I actually work as a Proactiv Solution Customer Service Representative. You said that your daughter had tried our product before. How long was she on it? Was her skin more dry or oily? Just a friendly FYI is can take up to 8 weeks to start noticing results with proper usage 2 times a day using the cleanser and toner in a dime size amount and the repairing lotion in a vegetable pea size amount. You might want to have her try it again if she didn't use it long enough and properly. However, if she has dry skin you wouldn't want her to use the regular kit but you could call up and ask to try the gentle formula kit. If you have any questions about it feel free to email me or re-post here. I would be glad to help you out. I know how frustrating acne can be as I have had skin issues all my life and finally I have found a perfect Proactiv kit that works for me. Oh yea, that is one benefit of being a club member is you can customize what comes in them. So if you wanted to do just the cleanser you can ask for a kit containing 3 cleansers and have it ship every 6 months.

I'm sorry but that is the exact acne regimen my dermatologist put my teen son on and he had BAD acne.....He looks gorgeous now and you would never know he'd ever had acne! Yes, they was the stuff off twice a day but that is how it works....the Antibiotic takes care of the bacterial infection and the Triaz helps remove the pimples as they come to the surface of the skin and the skin sloughs off each day a little at a time. Unfortunately it doesn't happen overnight.....it takes about a YEAR to change and a second year to stay clear. Proactive is junk....a waste of money. You have what you need....you are just in a hurry to see results.
BTW~~most good docs won't put girls on Accutane as it absolutely causes severe birth defects in the fetus and girls get pregnant.

I am not a doctor, but I do know from previous experience as an adolescent with prior acne problems that topical treatments may not always be the right answer. For me, a huge portion of my acne was due to an abnormal amount of stress from my parents divorce. As I have gotten older and way beyond my teen years, I have figured out that stress plays a real significant role for me in my on-going battle with acne. I have tried LOTS of prescribed medications as well (retinol gel, full strength retinol liquid, facial peels, masks, salicylic acid treatments, etc.) and only two things have made a difference for me: the sun and birth control pills. I know it sounds weird, but it's true! I can't remember the exact name of the pill I was on, but there are several on the market right now (Yasmin is one of them). Birth control pills essentially work with the body's hormones in helping them to control the ones that can contribute to acne. There are other added benefits to the pill as well, they can help prevent and treat fibroid cysts and ovarian cancer, but you'll want to check with your child's doctor for more specific information. I mentioned that the sun helped me also...and it did! Tanning a couple of times per week helped to dry out my skin which also helped with my acne. No dermatologist will recommend this, but it seems like everyone these days is going anyway! As far as stress, try to make sure that your child isn't experiencing anything unusually stressful. Social issues at school can take a huge toll on a young teen's body both inside and out. Not all kids feel comfortable discussing their problems with their parents, but you never know. Sometimes just asking them might give them the opportunity they've been waiting for and just didn't know how to bring it up. I hope this helps...like I said, I'm not a doctor, but these things have helped make a world of difference for me as a young teen. Good Luck!!

I hate it when doctors do that...

Green wintergreen rubbing alochol, pour a bit on a tissue and wipe your face..you will see the tissue become very dirty. Do it every morning and every night before bed. This is one of those tricks that no one ever knows..The best part..the bottle is usually about 89 cents... I find it at vons or walgreens.

My husband had bad acne and he went to the dermatoligist and tried everything but this works and he is perfectly clear.

http://www.walgreens.com/store/product.jsp?CATID=100947&navAction=jump&navCount=0&id=prod476

also for spot treatment..you can use an althelets foot cream..it has bacterial fighting agents that are stronger than acne creams.

Well, my cousin's acne was cured with ProActiv, but then again... it doesn't always work!
I suggest using a homemade acne cure. They are less expensive, plus my aunt has this great formula!
Instructions:
Get a teaspoon of salt and mix it with a cup of water. Stir until mixed throughly.
Turn on the bathroom sink on HOT and wait until lots of steam starts rising. Have your daughter close her eyes and lean over the sink.
Take about a teaspoon of baking soda and mix it with the salt water. Use it as a facial mask and cover your daughter's eyes with cucumbers so she doesn't get the mixture in her eyes.
After about 10 minutes, rinse with warm water and do the steam procedure again.
This worked with my other cousin and it'll hopefully work with you!

How long has she been on the Minocycline? It takes some time to start working.

I grew up with horrible Acne. I ended up taking Accutane to solve the problem.

Honestly, its a crapshoot. Accutane will solve the problem, but you may have side effects.
