Primary school in Britain taught me this about history:
'Henry VIII was big and fat and jolly and had eight wives, six of which he beheaded. He invaded France a lot.'
'The Anglo-Saxons were stupid and uncivilised and only became better when they converted to Christianity.'
'The British Empire was a source of good throughout the world, and certainly did not commit genocide or invent the concentration camp.'
I think that this happens because every nation tries to turn its history into mythology, where everything is simple and there are goodies and baddies and useful parallels to today, and the best way to do this is to ensure that the myth is firmly implanted in the nation's children.
You start with feeding them myths about the Mayflower and Henry VIII, and end up with them swallowing myths about wars and lies and government.

As a historian, I can assure you that the Mayflower passenger list was made up of mainly British people. The list still survives in the archives in Plymouth.

Um, needless to say you realize no longer something relating to the first public college gadget. in case you want your infants to have a non secular coaching, deliver them to parochial college. yet do no longer assume them to get into Harvard or MIT. so a ways as public faculties coaching there is not any god, this is a blatant lie. My public extreme college even allowed a bible club for the infants. no person became into compelled to attend or no longer attend. And that became into interior the ever so liberal and godless northeast. so a ways as existence coming approximately via twist of destiny, you probably did no longer relatively pay interest in biology classification, did you? And so a ways as evolution, this is standard scientific theory, meaning, that's a nil.5 step remote from a actuality, in assessment to a hypothesis, this is what you are able to evaluate a theory in layman's words. Evolution has stood as much as all of the tests. Gravity is a theory. Do you deny that too? 2+2=4 is a theory. look up Russell's Paradox. That shows 2+2=5 additionally. So even uncomplicated addition turns right into a theory and not a regulation. Get it? in case you want your infants to advance up ignorant and by no potential be waiting to locate a job outdoors of a few Christian enclave, via all potential, practice them as you will. yet once you want any of your infants to advance as much as be medical doctors, nicely, you're out of luck, as you do not have self belief in something technology has to furnish. i'm hoping we are the two right here whilst their SAT rankings are available. with the aid of fact i would be waiting to take heed to what those are. undergo in strategies, 800 mixed isn't a stable score.

I was taught that;
1. Embarrass is spelled "embarass" (it's not--my teacher was in error.)
2. American Indians (after discovery of the "New World,") were savages (that was just the propaganda of the day.)
3. Going along w/the popular crowd is not admirable (unfortunately, going against the crowd merely ostracized me & brought untold harassment & bullying. We were taught this to encourage us to be ourselves, but being one's self during early school years isn't really socially acceptable, it seems.)

These are historical "facts"...history is always written by the winners.
I doubt you'd find too many math teachers lying about how to calculate the hypotenuse of a triangle, or many chemistry teachers lying about how to balance chemical equations.

Columbus was the first. Vikings were here 600yrs. earlier. Asians about 1,000 yrs before.
The founding fathers were all upstanding citizens. Taverns or bars were where they mostly hung out.
