The requirements for trying out for BUDs are:
be an active-duty member of the U.S. Navy
be a man (women aren't allowed to be Navy SEALs)
be 28 or younger (although waivers for 29- and 30-year-olds are possible)
have good vision -- at least 20/40 in one eye and 20/70 in the other (corrective surgery is also possible)
be a U.S. citizen
pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)
Pass a stringent physical screening test that includes the following procedure:
swim 500 yards in 12.5 minutes or less, followed by a 10-minute rest
do 42 push-ups in under two minutes, followed by a two-minute rest
do 50 sit-ups in under two minutes, followed by a two-minute rest
do six pull-ups, followed by a 10-minute rest
run 1.5 miles in boots and long pants in less than 11.5 minutes

SEAL Challenge Contract Instructions:
First, you need to understand that as a SEAL Challenge candidate you must maintain a high degree of physical fitness. You will be required to pass the Physical Screening Test (PST) within the first 60 days of your Delayed Entry date. You will also retake the PST WITHIN 10 days before you "ship" depart to RTC Great Lakes. Ensure you perform your PST with a designated recruiting professional and that the scores are documented and remain in your official record. Below are the standards for the PST for a SEAL candidate: SEAL Challenge Requirements:
a. 18-28 years old (17 with parental permission)
b. A U.S. citizen.
c. High school graduate (or meet High Performance Predictor Profile (HP3) criteria). Be proficient in reading, speaking, writing, and understanding the English language.
d. Not be under civil restraint, a substance abuser nor have a pattern of minor convictions or any non-minor, misdemeanor, or felony convictions (waivers are granted depending on number and severity). The Special Assistant for Legal Affairs (CNRC Code 017) must not enlist applicants with lawsuits pending against them without prior approval.
e. ASVAB minimum requirements,(no waivers): SEAL - GS+MC+EI=165 or VE+MK+MC+CS=220
f. Eyesight Requirements: Uncorrected vision in the better eye can be no worse than 20/200 in each eye. Both eyes must be correctable to 20/20. Color deficiencies require BUMED approval. (Reference; Manual of the Medical Department, P-117, chapter 15-105, paragraph 7a(c). NOTE. BUMED waiver request: Reference Manual of the Medical Department, P-117, chapter 15-102, paragraph 3 and 3a.
g. Pass the Physical Screening Test (PST).
The SEAL, SWCC, EOD, and Fleet Diver Motivators at RTC will administer the PST after arrival at Boot Camp!
The SEAL Physical Screening Test (PST) is as follows:
500-yard swim using breast and/or sidestroke in less than 12 minutes and 30 seconds
10-minute rest
Perform a minimum of 42 push-ups in 2 minutes
2-minute rest
Perform a minimum of 50 sit-ups in 2 minutes
2-minute rest
Perform a minimum of 6 pull-ups (no time limit)
10-minute rest
Run 1 ½ miles wearing RUNNING SHOES and SHORTS in under 11 minutes
(while in the Delayed Entry Program, and the first initial PST at RTC)
* While at RTC the SEAL Candidate will transition to Boots and Long Pants for the Run portion of the PST. To remain qualified for the SEAL training Pipeline, the SEAL candidate must perform the 1 ½ mile run portion of the PST in Boots and Long Pants in 11 minutes 30 seconds or less.

what do you mean try out? you have to meet their minimum qualifications first, and they are more stringent than the everyday physical standards. and you don;t just try out, you have to request a it and they have to approve it.
