I was a follower of Jesus or following my "religion" ( no matter what denomination I belong to)

No, sorry I wouldn't. Jesus said that loving your neighbor as yourself is the summation of the old testament law. But He gave a new commandment for the new covenant, to love one another as He loves us. Many denominations don't follow Jesus or accept His teaching that we must be born again of the Holy Spirit. We can't truly love unless we have become born again by accepting Christ as our Lord and Savior and by receiving the Holy Spirit. Only then can we truly love as He commanded us, as He loves. He warned us of many false prophets and religions to come. We should not embrace their teachings as acceptable. That doesn't mean we don't love the people in them. Often we are mistakenly accused of not being "loving" because we don't accept false teachings.

I would say you are listening to the One that you follow, and true religion is taking care of the widows and orphans, in other words, having a charitable heart. I also believe that if you are a true follower of Jesus, and I have good cause to believe that you are, you have had to toss most "religion" out the door, as it does not seem to leave much room for true spirituality. You are in good company. Jesus did not seem to have a lot in common with the "religious rulers" of His time on earth! I love it when He straightened them out at the Temple.

it depends on your actions and expression of love towards them - if you are doing as Jesus would do, withthe attitudes Jesus had and that is your desire , then you are a follower of Jesus-- if you are following religious rules and making sure you are in line with your church rather than true biblical principle, if your motives are to be accepted in your religion , then you are a follower of teligion.

Repeating Law is Law Law: Mt 22: 36-40.
Law vs Law is as Loser vs Loser: Rom 8:2.
Grace is neither Law Law nor Law vs Law.

Pst: the young man in Matthew 19 who notably
always loved his neighbor as himself, still lacked;
Because law is about lack, not about sufficiency.
Grace is about sufficiency, not about lack(law)ing.

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

I would say you are kind. Whether you follow Jesus or not is something only God can truly know

I'd be suspicious. Love is expressed in many forms, like that loving Christian neighbor of mine pointing a gun at me for being atheist.

That's not religion, it's lifestyle. It's Jesus. :)
