Thanks a bunch for the help. We live in the country (Tx) and she had them in our barn - the momma will not let you get anywhere near her but I have been able to get to the puppies. It breaks my heart to see them like this - its really a bad deal all around.

Humane society is a good idea, unless you're financially and economically equipped to take care of 8 dogs!!

Please don't use any products from a store on these, or any, dogs - veterinary products only. Frontline spray is the only one safe and effective for animals under 8 weeks old.

Go to the vet and get something for them,or take them to the animal shelter. There are pills that you can get from a vet called "Capstar."
They are safe to use for puppies. You give them a pill and all of the fleas will die. But,you need to treat the mother.Get her some Advantage or Frontline, and after you give the puppies a Capstar, you'll have to bathe all of them.Use Dawn dishsoap,as they are too young for flea shampoo. Then, spray the area where the puppies stay with Flea spray( make sure the puppies and mother dog are somewhere else until the spray dries.) Fleas can kill puppies very quickly by causing anemia from draining the puppies' blood. It IS inhumane to leave them go and not do anything. The puppies also need to be wormed(fleas carry tapeworms),and Mom needs to be wormed, too. Then they will need vaccinations, and Mom should be spayed so she doesn't have more puppies.Good luck.

Take him to a puppy course. You can start house training him right now if you wish, the sooner the better I'd say. If he doesn't like a collar, try a harness it's usually better for the dog anyway, also not all harnesses are the same, try to find some that he doesn't find uncomfortable, also he may be less likely to pull if you make him wear a harness Did you just snap a collar around his neck n take him for a walk? Put a collar on for just a short time..then take it off...put it back on, increase the time..take it back off etc. Do the same thing with the harness. It's a puppy, be careful not to take him for too long walks it's just a puppy. German shepherds are prone to hip dysplasia and joint problems, you need to be careful. When he's young..during his first..maybe 1 year or even 2 years (the longer the better) don't make him walk up/down stairs - carry him if possible. When he's getting into a car don't make him jump, help him getting in and out of the car.

Check with a vet. Many good products are safe for puppies, but most are by prescription only. You are right to be concerned. The puppies can die from flea induced anemia, and by now, most of the pups probably have flea related tapeworms.

if they are strays, you need to call the SPCA to come get them asap, these fleas can kill the puppies if left untreated. The SPCA will treat them as soon as they get them. And find them good homes, too! If you want to treat them yourself, you need to know it will not be cheap to do so. Because the puppies are under 8 weeks old, you shouldnt use a commercial flea treatment on them. Call your vet and ask for advice. Their mom will need to be treated, also. You will need to treat your home and probably your yard, too. So, call the vet, get an idea of the cost and then decide what you can afford. Also, I have to tell you that these animals are no longer considered strays if you have been feeding and caring for them for over 7 weeks. They are now considered yours by law, you took on the responsibility simply by letting them stay at your home for so long. If you dont want to take on the cost of their care (they will need to be wormed too, and will need shots soon, etc, etc) you really need to get them to the shelter. Dont wait! Good luck!

get some flea shampoo from pets mart and give them a flea bath. Wear gloves. If this doesn't work (which it should since the puppies are so small) then bathe the mom. make sure to wash your clothes and if the fleas are still on the dogs, get some frontline and use it. then take the dogs to a shelter so they can get a new and nice home.
also get a flea comb to comb out the dead fleas after the bath!

Try to stabalize them and give them all your attention. Do not get too close to them or the mom might attack(unless she is sweet) Just give them some food first and assure the mom that you are friendly. Then, take a cage or a box and put all the pups and mom in ONE box.(do not separate the pups and mom.) Then, call the vet and tell them what you have and see what they would say. ( You should wash the pups and mom too and give them a clean bath first)(NO HUMAN SHAMPOO) Then, take them to your vet and your vet will soon take care of everything.( They will be soon adopted!0 (Also, you should try and adopt the mom, it is hard to adopt moms in shelters)

Take them to your local humane society...they'll take care of them (and momma) and they will also find good homes to adopt them out to!
