Grab modern bride. They have a checklist in the back of all the things to do. You'd go through all the months at once instead of checking the 6 months out, 4 months out, etc.
But basically, a wedding can be as simple as you want. You could have a florist or use simple flowers out of your garden.
Food is important. What are you feeding guests? How are you feeding them?
Invites. You need to get those out asap. I'd start on that now. You can make your own if you arent inviting many people and you are talented with computers. It always takes me a while to get the measurements right. There are several cheap places online you can order from as well. I used www.invitationsbydawn.com.
Your dress.
The marriage license.
The person who can marry you.
The place you are going to get married/reception in.
What kind of reception do you want?
Simple as in just cake and punch. Or simple as in like a barn dance, lots of dancing with some relatives playing the music. If so, figure out how the music will be played. Cd player, friends, a dj or a live band?
Do you envision having bridesmaids/groomsmen? Do you see a church wedding or a backyard ceremony? It really depends on you.
All that is really necessary to get married--
official/clergy
bride
groom
marriage license
witnesses
Everything else is optional
Dress
Flowers
Food/drinks
Silverware, Glassware
Reception
Centerpieces
Tableclothes
Doing an outdoor reception is harder than an indoor b/c you have to bring everything--like tables, chairs--but if you rent a hall, many things they already have.

I could go through a complete list, but you can find some really cool help by just typing wedding to- do list or wedding checklist on google search engine. It will give you a guide for what you will need. Omit the items that you plan to skip. Good luck and Congrats!

There are cute little sites that have checklist on what you might way at your wedding with a "time line". Print one out and go though it, highlight want you want to include and what you don't. This way you can construct your own checklist that fits your "simple" wedding:
http://www.frugalbride.com/weddingplanningchecklist.html
http://www.wedalert.com/content/planning/checklist.asp
http://www.a-weddingday.com/checklist.html
It's really important that you include what you want and skip over what you don't want. What someone might think is important, you might not. For example, you might not want a videographer or an all out DJ. Just a photogrpaher and a good soundsystem with a prearriaged playlist might be enough for you. Heck, if it's a simpe backyard wedding, you might not even want music since the air is already going to be filled with food, convos and laughs.

Figure out a ballpark number of how many people you want to invite and how much you can afford to spend on them. Book your ceremony and reception location(s). Everything else will eventually fall into place, but before it does you will need to know the date of the wedding, and you can't know that without booking it. (After those two, your best bet is to start dress shopping. Some women are lucky enough to find a great dress right off the rack, but if you aren't one of those women it could take you 6-10 months just to order a dress! Just sayin'...!)

Go to weddingchannel.com and start a profile. (You may not have to actually do this). There is a section called "Tools" that should make up your list for you. Hope this helps.
