Secular and/or spiritual answers welcome. Personally I think that Israel should return all illegaly occupied settlements in the West Bank back to Palestine. Why? The answer is simple. Under international law it is illegal to build settlements in an occupied territory. Being an atheist, this makes this dispute clean cut and dry. No ifs ands or buts, the secular law trumphs all dogmatic beliefs. Many Israelis (not all) believe that the land is rightfully theirs, given to them by God - as written in the Torah. It is only when the seperation between church and state is blurred, that we have problems like the ones fueling in the Middle East today.

The Angels - Iam not referring to the state of Isreal. Iam referring to the Isreali expansion into the West bank after the six day war. Are you familiar with the history?

Mr.X - Whether it is about security or religion (In my opinon they use security as a cover) it is still illegal under international law. There is no way of getting around that, period! Is the state of Isreal exempt from International Law? You know how many Palestinians where displaced by Isreals illegal settlements? It`s not right!

i don't agree that the land is occupied illegally. the west bank was part of jordan, jordan started the 67 war, they lost. they lost some territory, the west bank, and after the war jordan said it didn't want the land anymore.
if we want to discuss making it some kind of independent palestinian state now, that's fine, but it's not the case that it used to be independent and was occupied. that's just not true.
and yes, some people think that the west bank should be part of israel because of religious reasons, but that's not why the government keeps it.
it's purely strategic. the westernmost part of the west bank is only 9 miles from the mediterranean sea. 9 miles. most people don't know that. that means that israel can be split in 2 in less than half an hour. as long as a hostile force remains in the west bank, israel must control it. as soon as the people there give up their goal of destroying israel, it will be safe to discuss giving up control.
but i think gaza is the real test case. israel left completely about 2 years ago. and since then gaza has fallen apart. education scores are down, crime is up. over 40% of killings are honor killings of muslim women. it's a total mess. for the sake of the palestinians, i don't want to see that happen in the west bank.
the west bank is not about religion, it's about security.

Just as I think there should be no settlements built in Judea and Samaria (West Bank) I think that the Palestinians should stop bombing us. I think that's a bit more important than international law at the moment, in my opinion. The big question in the Arab-Israeli conflict is which came first, the occupation or the terrorism? Since the terrorism is evidently justified because of the occupation. I know that the first act of Arab terrorism against the Jews was in 1917, long before there ever was an Israel. So, you tell me which came first?
Although I am a Jew and I believe all of Israel should belong to us in an ideal world, (this doesn't mean the Palestinians have to leave.) I don't think it's realistic, and it's only fair to share since they have a right to live there too. As long as they stop bombing us and terrorizing us and electing terrorist governments and starting intifadas every time peace talks open up. Then I think some real progress can be made, because when terrorism is renounced, negotiations can follow.
Peace

However, since you are an atheist, I assume that you at least have some respect for democracy. One of the basic tenants of democracy is the right to live wherever one chooses. It seems to me that Jews should thus have the right to live in the West Bank. Since none of those settlements actually displaced any Arabs, giving it to the Palestinians would serve no purpose other than to displace Jews simply based on their ethnic identity.
And for the record, there is no Palestine to give it back to since Palestine does not exist.

You have changed yourself for the better and that is something to be proud of. Do not stop now; keep growing and improving yourself. You can change the type of person you are attracted to; it just takes time. I used to be attracted to abusive and/or abused women (often called the healer complex). Initially they would find me attractive because I was "nice" and balanced. It would not take long, though, before they would be unhappy with being treated well; they would berate me for being "unmanly" and not aggressive enough. Still not satisfied, they antagonize me and try and bait me into being abusive! I will not date that kind of woman any more. Though I still like my women "spicy", I only date mature women who treat me well, and love me the way I am. ADD: Non Jews, Christians, and Muslims have no problem seeing that you all worship the same god. It is only people within those religions that get so caught up in the denominational differences that they will kill over it. We are saddened by the violence of it.

You do realize that the UN partition which created the state of Israel also proposed an Arab state from the other half of the territory.
And that it was the leaders of the existing Arab nations who rejected this proposal because it required them to recognize a Jewish state.
That the first refugee camps in Gaza were set up by Egyptians. Who had encouraged Palestinian Arabs to flee their homes while Egypt and other Arab League nations bombed Israel.
That all of the Arab and Muslim nations except Jordan have severe immigration restrictions that apply ONLY to Palestian Arabs. Apparently they fear that their "identity will be diluted."
You can leave the religious issues out of it, but history as well? Israel is a tiny sliver of land. Why can't it be allowed to exist in peace?

"we have become slave's of Past...... mistake's of past are foolishily distroying present and our future"..........
i am secular and young man ,.........
and i guess in some way or other we will decide how the world will become in future.... our Ancestors have done some mistake's in past and we Young ppl are suffering and we fight for the mistake of our Ancestors...........
Be it Israel and Palestine or india and pak problem...... they are thing's of past......
who did the mistake or and who was wrong........ if we keep thingking abt abt who is RIGHT and WRONG then it's not going to solve the problem............
blindly jew's will say it's our GOD"S land and Blindly Muslime's will say it's our LAND ..........dont look into past ..... coz past is the problem if we keep looking at it then we will get only problem..
now we shd not try to judge at this point who is right or who is wrong coz jew "BELIVE " it's there's and Muslime belibve that land belong's to them....and it's just Imposible to wipe away that belife ...
we have to find a way where both india and pak.or Israel and Palestine dont look at past and think abt future think abt Peace .. V just cat see everyday ..... a child ...a mom ..a son or a HUsband dying....... ennfffffffff.................
Think abt peace and only peace not abt who is Right or wrong ......... Both side's "BELIVE" they are right that is the problem they look into past ..... Both side's can never accept there defet ,they cannot be told they are wrong......... tell INDIA and pak ennf is ennf......... no death coz of silly past ,,,,,,, and tell jew's and Muslime no death of Humanity for mistake which our Ancestors have done........
my solution is both india , pak and Israel and Palestine shd govern the troubled land together and
we shd call that troubled land as joint land which belong's to both country's ....
Brother's can have the land and rule it....... so there will be no loser and no winner........ hence no problem......
more importantly i am single and there are lottttt of hot chick's w8ing .....i cant die so early,,,,,,,,na na ....i dont wanna die for my mistake's forget abt me fighting for the mistake's our Ancestors .....

Why is it when Christians were given rule over Palestine, they were oppressive and killed everyone in there?
Why is it when the Jews were given rule over Palestine, all these conflicts occur?
When the Muslims were in control of Palestine, at least there was some form of peace. At least there werent deaths everyday.
I think we can all live together peacefully, but why must it be under Jewish rule or Christian rule? and why do they feel that they can go around and force these poor people from their homes and into camps and no right to return?
