In good times, few people are faithful to God and turn to him.

In bad times, almost everyone turns to God.

How?

I think they have always turn to God but during hard times their more open about it. People that believe in God, believe that faith in God is what helps keep them going. Anyways I read it in an article

I would say that this is the gist of the Bible/New Testament

Matthew 9:12-13 "When Jesus heard that, He said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice.' For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."

Jesus did not come for the stong, the morally perfect, superior, intelligent. He came for the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers, and those who are persecuted (Matt 5).

The point of this is that trully no one is wise, righteous, or good; only those who see their weakness have need of a savior (like only those who know they are sick go to the doctor)

Not necessarily for the weak. Most have been indoctrinated from childhood and many are quite strong and intelligent.. Some, as they grow and learn, move away from it. Indoctrination from early childhood continually reinforced through your teens and into adulthood is a tough thing to break away from. Most never realize they have been programmed so thoroughly. Neither do their parents.

Religion is what people turn to who wish to make themselves acceptable to God. It is what we "do" to be accepted. The world is full of such 'religions.' Christianity, however, is not a religion of "do" but a message of "done." Jesus did it all for us. He accepts us just like we are, with all our faults. My righteousness means nothing in the courts of heaven. Jesus was, however, faithful in all that the Father set before him. He was tempted in all points. like Adam was, but was without sin. His righteousness is available to all who will call on His name.

No one who studies the life of the Apostle Paul could ever say that he was weak, and in need of a crutch, as religion is often called.

As they say, it's easy to be a foxhole Christian.

Those who are faithful when things are good are the steadfast, but they may be just more mature. Being a faithful Christian isn't an overnight miracle for most people. God teaches us through the ups and downs of life to trust Him.

Sorry, but I don't agree with that. I am an atheist, and I do not turn to any gods, in good times or bad.

Religion is for those who have faith in gods.

It depends on your core beliefs. before I became a true Christian, I went to church, did the rules etc. When I became a Christian I dedicated my whole life to the Lord. I turn to him for everything good and bad. Do I pray more fervently when someone is in distress or problems in my life...absolutely. BUT I ask him for help and thank him in all circumstances. It makes my life easier knowing someone bigger than me is with me in everything I do. It is in weakness that God manifests his great strength, compassion, love and security.

Religion helps people with poorly functioning frontal lobes (area of your brain behind your forehead) behave themselves.

If you have good self-control, you don't need God to tell you not to sleep with another person's spouse. But if your self-control is poor, you need the threat of hellfire to keep you on your best behavior.

This is not true for everyone. You are generalizing.
I turn to God every day, all day long.
