In the time of Moses man made God out to be a murderer for not obeying his so called commands, now as a catholic I have read the bible many times the new and the old testaments, and I really question the validity of God saying to Moses you shall not enter the promised land because you have doubted me, if and I do say if God said that to Moses can you imagine how many people over 4000 years have gone to hell because they have doubted God, and how many over the next 4000 years will go to hell for doubting him, with all respect to the old testament this tells me that all of mankind wont have a hope in hell of ever reaching heaven in today's world, now there is a possibility that Jesus was a real person, but as for a God that no one can see or hear has really questioned the belief that he dose exist, and this is coming from all forms of religion today, I personally believe it will be proven to be all a big lie, but if it is true well I was heading for hell anyway peace be with you.

"While the Israelites were in the desert, a man was discovered gathering wood on the Sabbath day. Those who caught him at it brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly. But they kept him in custody, for there was no clear decision as to what should be done with him.
Then the Lord said to Moses, "This man shall be put to death; let the whole community stone him outside the camp."
So the whole community led him outside the camp and stoned him to death as the Lord had commanded Moses." Numbers 15:32-36 NAB

They did not trust the Lord, and they did not show the Israelites how holy the Lord is.
Numbers 20:12 “But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "You didn't trust me! You didn't show the Israelites how holy I am! So you will not bring this congregation into the land I'm giving them.”

They failed to honor God instead they took the glory for themselves
Numbers 20:10And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must WE fetch you water out of this rock?
they then smote the rock which God had not told them to do he told them merely to speak to it.
Numbers 20:12 (King James Version)
And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

Because the Jewish people angered G-d and Moses allowed it to happen. Therefore, Moses' punishment was that he was never to enter the Promised Land.
Did you read the story or just get the basics and not even try to read it?

Because when the Israelites needed water and God told him to knock on the rock to get it, he doubted God. God got angry at Moses' lack of faith. So his punishment was not to enter the Promised Land.

My understanding is that he wasn't allowed to enter the promised land was that he doubted God when he struck the rock a second time.
