2 1/2 years ago my husband found an abandoned litter of kitties behind a restaurant. We were able to save one of them. She was about 2 weeks old when we found her, eyes barely open, and I took on the resonsibility of being her mom. I bottle fed her, taught her how to pee, poop, & eat. Needless to say this little girl become my baby in every sense of the word. She was more than just a cat to us. She had a personality like no cat we'd ever seen. She reminded us a lot of a dog. She responded to her name (Chance), begged for food at dinner & kissed us like there was no tomorrow. She was the best.
2 nights ago, my Chance snuck into the dryer to take a nap. My husband didn't realize it, and well, he started the dryer. 20
minutes later he went to investigate the thumping coming from the laundry room only to find her lying in the dryer...We rushed her to the vet & learned it was too late. Please take this as a warning: ALWAYS CHECK INSIDE THE DRYER BEFORE YOU START IT!!! For my baby girl.

Just to add...Chance always slept in the dryer, but it was never a problem before. It was her favorite place to hide and sleep. What happened was I started the dryer, and then the stupid thing popped open on its own (its old) & Chance must have snuck in at this point. My husband (who is very tall) felt that some of the clothes were still wet without looking in the dryer, and restarted it. I just wish she would have cried or yelped or anything. But, she didn't. And now she is gone.

My husband blames himself no matter how many times I tell him it was an accident. He is a very macho man, but he has been crying non-stop since it happened- just as I have. It is so hard for me to see him like this. Chance was daddy's little girl, and he can't stand that he is the one who ended her life. I don't know what else I can do for him...I don't blame him at all. I miss Chance so much...but I know she doesn't blame him either. I just wish he could understand that it was a freak accident.

I feel terrible for you. I know you feel guilty but try to take it as a hard lesson learned. Cats are incredibly fast and can be into something before we know what's happened. Also, the dishwasher, washing machine, refrigerator, freezer, and under the lawn mower are places you always want to check. I'm sorry you're going through this. Rescue another and give it great life using what you've learned.

Oh how terrible. I leave the door of my washing machine open after I have used it, so it wont go mouldy, and several times I have caught my kitten trying to climb into it, but I always check that the washer is empty before I put the dirty clothes in it. Even so, twice now I have heard miouws for help in the house, and I looked all over the house for her before I tracked her down. The first time I found her trapped in the roof space, and the second time I found her trapped in the bathroom cabinet with the door closed. Cats are so inquisitive arent they, that they easily get themselves into trouble. I am so sorry for Chance and for you and your husband.

I'm sorry for your loss!

There's one thing I'd like to add to your warning--It's a good idea to keep the door to the laundry room closed. That way the cat won't be able to get anywhere near the washer and dryer.

We ere lucky enough to save ours from the washing mc. Needles to say it cost quite a bit for replacing the front door, but our baby is just fine. A while ago we had some 40 odd cats, each with his\her own personality ( All strays) Now we only have 9 left and love them all the same.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. As a child, there was always at least one cat in our home. My husband & I have 4 cats who mean the world to us. I know the loss you must feel. I thank you for reminding everyone to be cautious. I also want to mention to check your dishwasher too. We had a kitty sneak in the dishwasher & my mom started it without realizing she was in there. She was crying loud enough to hear her thru the dishwasher noises & luckily we found her in time & she was okay. RIP Chance...

That is so sad! :'(
R.I.P. Chance!!
But now you know to always check your dryer.
It is wise to keep the door on the dryer closed just in case your pets crawl in and sleep.
My cat pooped in my washing machine once and I didn't know so I put in clothes to laundry and they all ended up turning brown and really smelly :|

OH MY GOD! I PRAY FOR CHANCE! you poor dears, loosing your precious baby to such an"avoidable" demise,You are not the first person nor "unfortunatly'' the last person to have this happen, A cat simply can't resist a pyle of freshly dried clothing,I hope you will rescue another cat from a death sentence and refill your home with its love and affection!

My mom did this to a cat of ours a few years ago and it still breaks her heart.

It is just something that makes her feel so guilty.

Please everyone watch your dryers!!!

Good posting.....
I am always checking the dryer before I turn it on, and I always keep it closed so they don't sneak in there.

Sorry for the loss of your kitty.
